Do you know much about Trop Rock internet stations? Do you enjoy listening on your computer or in your vehicle via bluetooth? Have you heard of the newest station called Radio Trop Rock? Enough questions… let’s find out about this new endeavor.
Eric and Gina Babin not only purchased Radio Trop Rock from musician Todd Sparks, but they are innovators in what they are doing for just the past few weeks. This creative couple are broadcasting Trop Rock music while traveling the United States in their RV. Not only are they playing some of the best Trop Rock around, they are often broadcasting live from various Trop Rock events and house concerts. How did this come about? We first need to learn how Eric got into this music genre.
When the Gulf War began, Eric enlisted with the United States Navy. He had tours of duty in Iraq, Japan and Djibouti, but spent extended duty on a ship in the Caribbean. While enjoying beautiful island scenery, he also began listening to Jimmy Buffett’s live album “Feeding Frenzy.” A love for this genre of music was born and Eric was fortunate to be stationed in several coastal climes, including Corpus Christi, Texas, Pensacola, Florida and Key West. While in Corpus Christi, he attended Galveston Bay Parrot Head Club’s Riddles in the Sand and realized that there was more of this great genre of music outside of Mr. Buffett’s songs.
Eric and Gina eventually located to Gulf Shores, Alabama (a beach was the main requisite) and their neighbor across the street invited them to a concert. It turned out to be Trop Rock artist Rick Lamb and the Babin’s decided to begin hosting their own Trop Rock concerts. They named their home “Last Mango” and soon the stream of house concerts began. It wasn’t long before Harry Teaford, owner of Radio A1A internet radio station, contacted Eric with the suggestion that he broadcast the concerts live on Radio A1A. Eric’s experience with internet radio began.
The Babins started discussing the idea of broadcasting while on the road in their RV and making the huge move from living in a house to living on the road. “Trop Rockin’ The USA” was born and after making the pre-Meeting of the Minds trip across Florida and the Keys, they were hooked. They loaded up what they needed to broadcast from the RV and remote locations, included their dogs Carlos and Delaney and set out on an adventure of a lifetime. Gina works as an insurance customer representative, so she can also work out of the RV. They are in good company living on the road, as Donny and Michelle Brewer and Thom Shepherd and Coley McCabe are “RV-ers,” too.
Radio Trop Rock has the type of license in which they can play original Trop Rock music, along with big names, such as Kenny Chesney, The Zach Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett, of course. Eric and Gina have quite of bit of 2017 already booked for events. They will be at Music on the Bay, Stars Fell on Alabama, Another Voyage to Paradise cruise, Summer Solstice and Summer Chill. Recently they broadcasted the entire weekend of music at Lone Star Luau.
Eric has just become the new Membership Director of the Trop Rock Music Association and is promoting membership in TRMA across the nation. Taking listeners to the pool, the beach or boat via music is Eric’s desire. After all, escapism is much of what Trop Rock music is about and Eric and Gina are “running the station while on vacation!”
