The Next-to-Newest US Margaritaville

Last month I was excited to visit the newest Margaritaville Cafe in the United States, in the gorgeous city of Destin, Florida. Well, it was the newest at the time – Pigeon Forge actually opened a Margaritaville a few days ago. No matter, the Destin location is terrific.

The Destin Margaritaville opened in February and took over a year to build. The actual two-story structure had been other restaurant/ bars before the tropical transformation. It’s in an area right on the water called “Harborwalk,” which is reminiscent of a classic entertainment boardwalk. Margaritaville, along with other Harborwalk businesses, participates in a weekly Mardi Gras parade every Tuesday and the entry fees for the parade go to local charities.

Flavio Yepo is the manager of the Destin Margaritaville and has been with the organization for 10 years, most recently with the Las Vegas location. He told me that they opened with a new menu, appropriate to the area. There is live music seven days a week and on Thursdays, there’s not a bad seat in the house for the weekly fireworks.  They’re really gearing up for a super summer season.

Flavio provided us with a primo table right on the edge of the water, where we had a fantastic meal. I enjoyed a margarita sampler, which I’ve not seen on other Margaritaville Cafe menus. There was a wonderful breeze as we watched the boats go by just a few yards away.

We ventured up to the rooftop bar and had a terrific view of the nearby bridge and even more boats and beach.

If you find yourself in Florida’s Emerald Coast, make sure that you visit this great Margaritaville Cafe – you won’t be sorry!
