What a perfect new CD to released just before Meeting of the Minds! Dennis McCaughey and Tropical Soul have recently debuted their newest recording called Blue Jeans and Blue Skies and it’s impossible not to think of Key West during almost every song.

There’s the unmistakable feel and sound of the beach and island life pulsing from upbeat “Yesterday’s Wind” and “If Once You Slept On An Island.” Actually, the latter selection is borrowed from Scott Kirby and has a great, jazzy feel. John Patti shows his steel drum skills in accompaniment and solos in “Perfect Sometimes,” “If Once You Slept On An Island” and the happy “Ukelele Sunday”…. we always love to hear John!

Dennis relies on his Tropical Soul band mates Heather Vidal and Dave Huxta throughout the album and Heather solos on a lovely, poignant ballad called “Boys at the Bar.”

Dennis sings what could be the national anthem for Trop Rock musicians, “Coast to Coast,” which pays tribute to the long traversing travel that so many performers experience in order to perform across the nation. The love of the Trop Rock fans shines through on this one, also!

The title song, “Blue Jeans and Blue Skies” is a sweet love song… I’m betting that Dennis’s wife Susan was his inspiration. And my favorite selection from the CD has to be “Right Down Caroline.” Dennis shows his love of Key West in this song and so many of us can understand it perfectly! Take a listen to a little snippet:

The whole recording is getting me ready for my annual trek to Key West for MOTM. I’m reminded of the great weather, the laid-back atmosphere, hearing great music and seeing old friends.

“Here’s To The Good Times” is a great song to get ready to see the familiar smiles of friends from across the nation that I’ll encounter in a few days. Make sure you catch Dennis and Tropical Soul at Hog’s Breath Saloon next week and get a copy of this great recording. You can also order from his online store at Tropical Soul Shop. Bet you smile!

Mark – Dennis is certainly full of musical talent, plus he’s a super nice guy. He was sure busy with his music the last few days in Key West! Thanks for reading Trop Rockin Magazine!
