What is an Air Fryer?

Air fryers are magical cooking machines for me. Most recipes take about half the time as a regular oven which is a wonderful thing for the entire family. The air fryer circulates hot air all around the food to evenly cook all sides and get the best results without using a deep fryer.

Are Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wings Healthy?

Yes, Air Fryer Buffalo Wings are low card and keto friendly. With the caveat that you choose a no carb and no sugar buffalo wings sauce. In this recipe, I’m using Anchor Bar Buffalo Wing Sauce (totally delicious) and it has zero carbs and zero grams of sugar.

Of course, you can use whatever brand is your favorite. The best wings are the ones that taste perfect to you! Just make sure to check the nutritional label on the buffalo wing sauce you are using. Not all sauces are sugar free.

Plus, the added benefits of no extra fats by not frying in oil. Makes a pretty healthy meal or game day appetizer!

With just a few ingredients, you’ll have crispy and tangy air fryer Buffalo wings!

  • 12 Chicken Wings
  • Olive Oil Cooking Spray
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Buffalo Wings Sauce

The four ingredients : Pam Olive Oil Cooking Spray, Buffalo Wing Sauce in a Jar, Salt and Pepper.

What is Buffalo Wing Sauce Made Of?

Buffalo wing sauce is tangy and spicy. The main ingredients are cayenne pepper, vinegar, oil and salt. Depending on the heat of the sauce, there is more or less cayenne pepper.

I’m a fan of hot and spicy wings, so I’m using the “hotter” variety of the Anchor Bar Buffalo Wing Sauce. But it also comes in mild, medium and extreme heat. The “Hotter” flavor has a really good kick but I don’t think I could bump up to the “extreme heat” variety! I know I’d like the Medium heat just as much as the Hotter flavor.

How to Make Air Fryer Buffalo Wings

This recipe is so easy! You need just 5 ingredients, your air fryer and just 30 minutes until they are ready to serve. Perfect for a weeknight meal or a quick appetizer.

Step 1:  The chicken wings need to warm up before cooking. Take them out of the refrigerator and let them warm to room temperature.

Step 2: Once the wings have reached room temperature, use a paper towel to pat each chicken wing dry. This is an important step, especially if you thawed out frozen chicken wings. There will be a good amount of water that needs to be removed. Less moisture means crispier chicken wings. And we want crispy!

Step 3: Spread the chicken wings out on a flat surface. You can use a large plate, baking sheet pan, cutting board, a piece of parchment paper etc… Lightly spray the wings with olive oil cooking spray and season with table salt and pepper.

Step 4: Preheat the air fryer to 390 degrees and place the wings in the air fryer basket or rack (depending on your model). Close the air fryer and set the timer for 15 minutes.

Tip: Be sure to separate the wings into a single layer in the basket of your air fryer. If you need to stack the wings, make sure to rotate them halfway through to make sure the airflow is getting to all sides of your chicken wings. You may need to add a few more minutes of cook time to ensure the wings are crispy on all sides.

If you have a deep basket style air fryer, pick up one of these air fryer rack inserts and double your space!

Step 5: Remove from the air fryer and place wings in a large bowl with a lid. Pour in some buffalo wing sauce, put the lid on the bowl and toss wings until completely covered.

Place them back in the air fryer (again on 390 degrees) and cook for 5 minutes. If you want them a little more crispy, add another 3-5 minutes.

Note: The chicken wings may not look like they are covered in the sauce when you remove them from the air fryer, but they are! Make sure you taste them before you decide to add any more sauce.

Pro Tip: The first time you make this chicken wings recipe, check them a few times during the cooking process. It’s OK to open the air fryer several times to make sure they aren’t under or overcooking.

Once you’ve made air fryer buffalo wings a time or two, you’ll know exactly how long you need to cook them in your particular model of air fryer. The cooking time might have slight variations depending on the size of your air fryer and brand.

Favorite Dipping Sauces

There are so many great sauces you can serve up with Buffalo chicken wings. Here are a few ideas:

  • Blue Cheese Dressing
  • Ranch Dressing
  • Peppercorn Ranch Dressing

How to Store Leftover Chicken Wings

If you have just a few wings leftover, you can simply store them in the fridge in a zip lock bag if you plan on eating them the next day.

If you need to store them for several days then use an airtight container. The leftovers will keep in the fridge for about 3-4 days.

How to Reheat Leftover Buffalo Wings

When you reheat leftover wings, you’ll want to use the air fryer again. If you reheat in the microwave or oven they won’t turn out crispy.

To reheat, put them back into the air fryer at 350 degrees for approximately 8-10 minutes. This will crisp them right back up and they’ll taste just as yummy as the first time you cooked them.
