GROUND CHICKEN: This is what you’re building your burger patty out of. Ground turkey is another great alternative for juicy patties.
MOZZARELLA: A cup of shredded cheese and the breadcrumbs mixed together will add amazing flavor to these breaded chicken sandwiches.
EGG: One large egg to bind ingredients together.
SALT AND BLACK PEPPER: Part of the spices that get added to the ground chicken mixture.
SEASONINGS: Everything bagel seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder are all mixed into the ground chicken meat.
PANKO BREADCRUMBS: Regular bread crumbs could be used if in a pinch but the panko really brings a nice crisp to the ground chicken burgers.
HAMBURGER BUNS: Pick whatever ones are your favorite. I like regular buns or brioche buns that have been toasted in the air fryer for a really delicious bite.
TOPPINGS AND CONDIMENTS: Add your faves, some great options are: lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, ketchup, mayo, mustard, bbq sauce, etc.
Variations for Air Fryer Chicken Burgers
Feel free to change up your seasonings to your liking. There are a number of burger seasoning mixes in the grocery store to choose from.
I typically have on hand McCornick’s Grill Mates Hamburger Seasoning and have used this several times to make my chicken burgers in the air fryer.
I’ve also used Lipton Onion Soup Mix (powder packets) without the panko bread crumbs. The onion soup mix flavors air fryer ground chicken burgers deliciously.
You can easily customize the toppings for your air fryer ground chicken burgers. Top it like you would any other type of burger with any of these options:
- Pickles, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions
- Avocado Slices, Sprouts
- Mayonnaise, Ketchup, Mustard, BBQ Sauce
Grab your favorite toppings and favorite bun selection and build the best chicken burger. Pair it with some air fryer french fries, air fryer onion rings or a handful of potato chips and you’ve got yourself an easy go-to dinner meal.
Easy recipes are my specialty and these air fryer chicken burgers only take a few minutes to prep before they are ready to cook.
STEP 1: Add ground chicken, egg, and all seasonings to a large bowl. Mix until well incorporated.
STEP 2: Then, mix in the shredded cheese and panko breadcrumbs.
STEP 3: Now divide the mixture into 2 or 3 equal parts (depending on how large you want the burger patties) and form them into even-sized patties.
STEP 4: For best results, preheat your Air Fryer to 390°F before adding your chicken burgers. Preheating usually takes 1-2 minutes.
TIP: You can line your Air Fryer basket with aluminum foil or spray with non-stick cooking spray to keep your burger patties from sticking.
STEP 5: Place chicken patties in the Air Fryer and cook for 5 minutes or until lightly browned. Flip the patties over and cook for an additional 5 minutes or until browned.
STEP 6: Remove the burger patties from the Air Fryer and repeat for the remaining patties. Serve your patties with your favorite toppings and condiments.
How Long to Cook Chicken Burgers in the Air Fryer?
It takes 10 minutes to air fry chicken burgers, flipping them over half way through the cook time.
But, the cooking time recommendation varies on a few things. The thickness of your chicken burger- the thicker your burgers, the longer the cook time needed.
It also depends on the make and model of your Air Fryer. Different models will require different times, check the manual to see what your fryer manufacturer recommends.
Always check the internal temperature of your air fryer chicken burgers to make sure it’s safe for consumption – at least 165 degrees F. The best way to do this is to use a meat thermometer at the thickest part of the patty.
Make sure not to overcrowd your fryer basket and only place them in a single layer in the basket. The Air Fryer needs to be able to move the hot air around to “fry” your burgers.
How to Store Chicken Burgers
After your burgers are done air frying, you can place them in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
They should keep well in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. If you wish to keep them longer for meal prep or simply to enjoy later, you can freeze them wrapped in plastic wrap and then in a freezer safe zip-top bag or freezer safe container. Store in the freezer for up to 2 months.
To thaw your frozen chicken patty, remove it from the freezer and place in the refrigerator until it thaws.
How to Reheat Leftover Chicken Burger Patties
To reheat your air fryer chicken burgers, I recommend tossing the patties back in the fryer at 360F for a 5 minutes and checking to see if they’re warmed all the way through. Make sure to pre-heat the air fryer first. Add cooking time as needed.
