Can You Cook Cookies in an Air Fryer?

Yes and they are delicious! People are always surprised that cookies can be made in an air fryer.

Making cookies in the air fryer is best for small batches since most air fryer baskets will only hold 4-6 cookies at a time.

In general, you should reduce your cooking temperature by 25 degrees for baking in the air fryer vs. oven baking. Cookies in the air fryer will cook between 4-6 minutes and then will need to set for another 2-4 minutes before removing from the air fryer.

You can make most types of cookies in the air fryer as long as you’re not adding toppings on top of the cookie dough. Because the hot air starts from the top of the air fryer, extra toppings could burn or melt.

These cookies bake well in the air fryer:

  • Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Peanut Butter Cookies
  • Sugar Cookies
  • Oatmeal Cookies
  • Butter Cookies

I love my air fryer cookies, but sometimes I want to make a quick batch of no-bake and these are my go-to for Peanut Butter Cookies without egg.

How to Make Air Fryer Peanut Butter Cookies

Step 1: Combine all three ingredients in a medium mixing bowl. Using a spatula, mix until fully combined.

Note: You can use an electric mixer if you want, but a spatula works fine and there is less mess to clean up.

Make sure ingredients are mixed well with no pockets of sugar.

Step 2: Chill the peanut butter cookie dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Note: This is a must-do step for best results. Chilling the dough keeps the cookies from spreading too much and becoming crumbly in the air fryer.

Step 3: Trim your parchment paper to the size of your air fryer basket. Be sure there is not a lot of extra parchment paper running up the side of the air fryer or it will can get caught by the swirling hot air and flop over on to your cookies.

Step 4: Now that you’re sure your parchment paper fits, remove it from the air fryer and set it on a flat surface. Using a 1 ½ inch cookie scoop, or a heaping tablespoon, scoop a ball of dough onto the parchment paper.

Make sure to leave a 1/2 inch of space between cookies. Depending on the size of your air-fryer basket, you should be able to cook 4-6 cookies at a time in a single layer. It doesn’t matter how many cookies you can fit, the cooking time is still the same.

Note: This cookie dough is very sticky, so try not to use your fingers to drop dough.

Step 5: Use a fork to press down in the center of the cookie to flatten.

Press the fork in one direction, then do it again from the opposite direction to make a crisscross pattern on top. This flattens the cookies and gives them the fork marks that peanut butter cookies are well known for.

Step 6: Pick up your parchment paper with the cookies on it and place it in your air fryer basket.

Step 7: Set your air fryer at 370 degrees F and a cook time of 4 minutes.

Tip: When you make your first batch, keep a close eye on the cookies as every model of air fryer is slightly different. Once you’ve made the first batch, you’ll know exactly how much baking time you’ll need for the second batch.

Step 8: Let the cookies rest in the air fryer for 4 minutes. Do not move or touch the cookies until they’ve set for a at least 4 minutes. This allows them to set up and not crumble when removing. They’ll continue to cook while in the heat and will turn out a nice golden brown.

Step 9: Place on a wire rack to finish cooling.

Repeat until you’ve made all your air fryer peanut butter cookies!

How to Store Air Fryer Peanut Butter Cookies

Once you’ve made all your peanut butter cookies in the air fryer, if you have leftover cookies, you can store then in an airtight container for up to a week. You leave the air-tight container out on the counter where they’ll stay fresh at room temperature.
