First of All, What is a White Russian?
The White Russian cocktail is a classic drink that obtained a cult status after the Jeff Bridges character in The Big Lebowski movie made it famous. He orders them excessively through out the movie! It’s still a favorite drink ordered a the bar or made at home.
Typically served in a rocks glass (or an old fashioned glass), it’s actually a simple cocktail and it is not from Russia. Both the Black Russian and the White Russian drinks were created by a Belgium bartender by the name of Gustave Tops in the 1940’s to honor a U.S. Ambassador. The Russian part of the name is in recognition of one of the main ingredients, vodka.
A Black Russian is made with Kahlua and Vodka and the White Russian recipe has the addition of cream.
