What You Need to Make Candy Corn Jello Shots

This candy corn jello shots recipe only needs 6-7 ingredients.

UNFLAVORED GELATIN: You’ll need 3 packets of unflavored gelatin (Knox gelatin). This unflavored jello will be mixed into all 3 layers.

WATER: 2 cups of water to dissolve the various jello packets. 1 cup of water for the unflavored jello and 1 cup of water for the orange jello.

SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK: 1/2 a can of sweetened condensed milk will make these candy corn jello shots creamy delicious!

WHIPPED CREAM VODKA: 1 cup of vodka divided among each of the jello shot layers. Use Whipped Cream Vodka or Cake Vodka. This adds a tasty sweetness to each of the layers.

ORANGE JELLO: 1 box of 3 oz orange jello for the orange layer.

YELLOW FOOD COLORING: Just 2-3 drops of yellow food coloring gives the unflavored jello the perfect color for the yellow layer.

CANDY CORN (optional): Great to use for garnish or decor around the serving tray.

What Kind of Vodka Should You Use?

Plain vodka works perfectly. When mixed with the flavors of condensed milk and orange jello, regular vodka will work great.

But, after making these a few times, I’ve found that Vanilla Vodka or Whipped Cream Vodka adds a delicious sweetness that I really like!

If using regular vodka, the higher end vodka you use, the better these Halloween jello shots will taste.

How to Make Candy Corn Jello Shots

Here’s the step-by-step directions. It’s really very simple, so don’t let the number of steps to make this candy corn jello shots recipe intimidate you! The hardest part is letting each layer set up before adding the next layer.

STEP 1: In a small saucepan, add 1 cup water and two of the unflavored gelatin packets. Over low heat, whisk in the unflavored gelatin until it is completely dissolved.

STEP 2: Remove from heat and whisk in the sweetened condensed milk and add 2/3 cup of vodka. Stir well.

STEP 3: Pour half of this gelatin mixture into a small microwave-safe bowl. Set aside. This will be used later to make the final layer.

STEP 4: Arrange the individual cups on a large baking sheet. This will make it easier to move the candy corn jello shots in and out of the refrigerator.

STEP 5: Take the remaining mixture that is still in the saucepan. Pour it into the bottom of the tall shot glasses, filling about 1/3 of the way up to make the first white layer. Place into the refrigerator until gelatin has fully set.

STEP 7: Add 1 unflavored gelatin packet along with 1 cup water to your sauce pan. Slowly whisk over low heat until the gelatin dissolves. Remove from heat, then pour in the orange jello powder and whisk again to fully combine. Add the remaining 1/3 cup vodka and stir well. This will make the layer of the orange gelatin mixture. Let it cool for 10 minutes to keep from melting the bottom white layer in the shot glasses.

STEP 8: Pour the orange gelatin mixture on top of the white layer, to make the second layer. Return shot glasses to refrigerator and chill until second layer is set. At least 30 minutes.

STEP 9: Once the orange jello layer is set, use the remaining white gelatin that you put aside in a small bowl in step 4. The gelatin may have already started setting up. If so, put the bowl into the microwave for 30 seconds intervals until it’s smooth and liquefied again.

STEP 10: Add 2-3 drops of yellow food coloring into the mixture to make the top yellow layer. Make sure it’s slightly cooled so the top layer doesn’t mix with the middle layer. Pour the yellow mixture on top of the orange layer, filling the remaining portion of the shot glasses. Place shot glasses back into the refrigerator until set.

STEP 11: Place a candy corn on top of each glass for garnish, if desired.

Variations for a Candy Corn Jello Shot Recipe

  • Use a cup vanilla vodka or whipped cream vodka instead of regular vodka for an even sweeter flavor.
  • You can use lemon jello for the yellow layer, but I do caution this because lemon jello is quite a strong flavor.

How to Serve

It’s nice to serve these with a little spoon so your guests aren’t trying to reach their tongue deep into the tall glasses.
