Why are Christmas Mules Served in a Copper Mug?

Just like traditional Moscow mule recipes, it’s best to serve your Christmas Moscow Mule in a classic copper mug. Why? The metal takes on the temperature of the drink, keeping it cooler and more refreshing. Plus, it just look so darn cool!

But don’t fret if you don’t have copper mugs! You can grab some here on Amazon or simply serve them in a lowball cocktail glass. They’ll taste just as amazing in your own glassware.

Ingredients

We’re using the same basic recipe with the addition of a cranberry twist in this Christmas Moscow Mule recipe.

VODKA: A staple in the mule cocktail, be sure to use a good quality vodka for a smoother taste.

CRANBERRY JUICE: If you love a tart cocktail, use real cranberry juice. If you like added sweetness, use a cranberry juice cocktail. Cranberry juice cocktail is sweetened with additional juices, such as apple juice. I prefer a little sweetness in my Christmas Mule, so I’m using the cranberry cocktail juice.

GINGER BEER: Spicy ginger beer adds a bold taste and a little bubbly. If you’re a fan of moscow mules, you’ll love how well the ginger beer spices mix with cranberry.

LIME JUICE: Fresh lime juice adds a refreshing zing to the drink and adds to the tart and tangy flavor.

GARNISHES: Add a lime wedge (or a fancy lime wheel), fresh cranberries and a rosemary sprig for the complete holiday mule look!

How to Make a Cranberry Mule

This Christmas Moscow Mule is all about the carbonation in the ginger beer, so it’s best NOT to use cocktail shaker, where the shaking will reduce the bubbles. To preserve the carbonation, simply create the entire cocktail in the copper mug and serve over ice.

STEP 1: Add ice to your copper cup.

STEP 2: Pour in the vodka, cranberry juice and then the ginger beer.

STEP 3: Add fresh lime juice on top. Give the drink a light stir.

STEP 4: Add a lime wedge, several cranberries and a sprig of rosemary for garnish. I also added these cute striped straws and a holiday Christmas tree topper to really give this cocktail the holiday spirit!

Large Batch Cranberry Moscow Mule Recipe

This one is a little trickier than other cocktail recipes when making it in a large batch, but a delicious cranberry juice cocktail makes the perfect holiday drink to serve guests. When hosting your next holiday party, I know you’d rather make a large batch so you don’t spend so much time in the kitchen!

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Use a large pitcher or punch bowl.
  2. Prep your garnishes and set them out for guests to add to their cocktail.
  3. Line up your copper mugs.
  4. Pour 1 part vodka, 1 part cranberry juice and 1 part ginger beer.
  5. Give it a very light swirl to mix so not to remove the carbonation.

Christmas Mule Variations

  • If ginger beer is just too spicy for you or some of your guests, use ginger ale for an alternative.
  • Not a fan of rosemary? Garnish with other fresh herbs like a sprig of mint for an entirely different aroma.

A Christmas Moscow Mule is the perfect drink to serve during the holiday season. It is a refreshing and festive cocktail that is incredibly easy to make, making it a favorite Christmas cocktail.
