Drunken Snowman Cocktail

Hot chocolate and Bailey’s is always a popular drink combination. In this Drunken Snowman cocktail, we’re making it even creamer with scoops of ice cream that melts into creamy goodness when topped with hot chocolate.

Delicious on a cold day, this Bailey’s hot chocolate and ice cream recipe is a favorite adult beverage. You can also call it the Dirty Snowmen or Dirty Snowman drink. Either way, it’s the same delicious ice cream, hot chocolate and Bailey’s cocktail.

Serve it as a Christmas cocktail for your friends and family and don’t forget about New Years! It’s perfect for a New Years day cocktail while warming up by the fireplace awaiting for the NYE festivities.

If you just love chocolate creamy cocktails, then you might want to put this Dirty Monkey drink on your list to try!

Ingredients

You only need a few delicious ingredients to make a Drunken Snowman recipe:

  • 2 scoops Vanilla Ice Cream
  • 1 oz. Bailey’s
  • Milk
  • Hot Chocolate Mix
  • Whipped Cream (for topping)
  • Milk Chocolate Sprinkles or Chocolate Shavings (for garnish)

Drunken Snowman Recipe Directions

Here are the easy step-by-step directions.

NOTE: If you want to add a chocolate rimmed mug, see the directions in the Variations section below. Just remember to dip rims of your mugs before you start following this recipe.

Step 1: First, make a cup of hot chocolate. Heat 1 cup of milk and your favorite homemade hot cocoa recipe or a pre-made hot chocolate packet in a pot on the stove. Stir until all the hot chocolate powder is dissolved into the milk.

Or, you can microwave a cup of milk and stir in hot chocolate powder until completely mixed.

Step 2: In a separate cup, add two scoops of vanilla ice cream.

Step 3: Pour 1 to 1.5 ounces of Bailey’s over the two scoops of vanilla ice cream.

Step 4: Pour desired amount of hot chocolate into the mug and stir to combine the vanilla ice cream, Bailey’s and hot chocolate mixture.

Step 5: Top with whipped cream. I use Redi Whip whipped cream in a can, as it’s easier to swirl it around the top of the mug.

Step 6: Garnish with milk chocolate sprinkles on top (or milk chocolate shavings).

Variations

It’s an easy recipe to change up and make your own signature cocktail. Here are several easy variations you can make:

1. Include a chocolate rimmed mug to add even more chocolate flavor. Adding the chocolate edge is easy and only takes about a minute.

  • Simply use two separate shallow dishes. Melt chocolate wafers in one of the shallow dishes.
  • Add milk chocolate shavings or sprinkles in a separate shallow dish.
  • Dip rims of your mugs in the melted chocolate, then roll the rim in the chocolate shavings or chocolate sprinkles.
  • Then use the extra chocolate shavings to sprinkle on top of the whipped cream.

2. You can choose the types of chocolate liqueur that suits your tastes. If you love a white chocolate flavor, substitute a white chocolate liqueur for the Bailiey’s liqueur.

3. You can also use different types of chocolate garnishes. Try white chocolate melting wafers to create a white chocolate rim for your mugs.

  • Simply melt a few white chocolate wafers and again use two separate dishes to dip the rim of the mug.
  • First dip the rim into the melted white chocolate and then roll the rim in milk chocolate shavings or sprinkles.

4. If you want more of a boozy hot chocolate, add in 1 ounce to 1.5 ounces of whipped cream vodka or vanilla vodka before you add in the hot chocolate mixture in the recipe above.

5. You can always go all out and make your own Bailey’s whipped cream! Here’s an easy recipe to create your very own homemade Bailey’s whipped cream.

Can You Make it Without Alcohol?

Sure! Just don’t call it a Drunken Snowman cocktail, simply call it a creamy hot chocolate recipe. To make it without alcohol, don’t include the Bailey’s Irish Cream.

You can add a tablespoon of chocolate syrup on top of the ice cream to give it a little more chocolate oomph before adding the hot cocoa mixture.
