It’s that time of the year and Grinch Sugar Cookies are on the baking to-do list!

Christmas time is coming quickly, and it’s the perfect time to bake some delicious cookies for friends and family. The Grinch stole Christmas, but he left behind these deliciously adorable Grinch sugar cookies.

It’s one of our favorite Christmas movies (and favorite cookies) and everyone remembers this grumpy Dr. Seuss character, The Grinch! But, in the end, the Grinch’s small heart grew 3 times larger and he learned the true meaning of Christmas. So, cozy up with these Grinch cookies for a night by the Christmas tree to watch your favorite version of the Grinch movie.

Grinch Sugar Cookie Ingredients

The ingredients are pretty standard for sugar cookie recipes, we’re simply adding green food coloring to the mix.

Here’s everything you need for a basic sugar cookie dough (there’s a printable recipe card at the bottom of this post):

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 Tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • Green Gel Food Coloring
  • Heart Sprinkles

Directions

These Grinch sugar cookies are quick and easy to make, and the heart candy on top makes them super cute.

Here’s the easy recipe:

Step 1: In a large bowl mix the dry ingredients: add the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt and mix together well. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to mix.

Step 2: Melt butter in the microwave. Then let cool for 2 minutes.

Step 3: Using a hand mixer or a stand mixer, mix in the melted butter, eggs and vanilla with the dry ingredients until smooth.

Step 4: Add 4-5 drops of food coloring into the mixing bowl and stir the cookie dough until the vibrant color is even.

Tip: Start with less drops of green food coloring and slowly add more until you get the right color.

Step 5: Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 6: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 7: Roll the dough into tablespoon sized balls.

Step 8: Place on the cookie sheet and then slightly flatten with a spoon.

Step 9: Bake cookies for 7-10 minutes (ovens vary), or until the edges are beginning to set. The center should still be puffy and soft and slightly under baked.

Step 10: Remove from the oven and place a red candy heart sprinkle in the center of each cookie before they cool.

Step 11: Place cookies on a wire rack to cool.

How To Store Grinch Sugar Cookies

These Grinch Christmas cookies can be stored for 4-5 days in an airtight container at room temperature.

How to Gift Grinch Christmas Cookies

Make stacks of sugar cookies and neatly wrap them in plastic wrap. Then wrap in clear, green or red cellophane wrap and tie with a bow. Add a gift tag and these will make cute hostess gifts!
