Heather Vidal is one of the busiest female musicians in the Trop Rock music world. She is a member of the duo “Copper Sky” and also sings with Dennis McCaughey as “Tropical Soul,” plus she sings with the all-girl group “Girlz Rule.” Nominated for TRMA’s Female Vocalist of the Year, Heather also teaches guitar. Here she references the contribution of a student while telling about her song “Butterfly.”
The song was not quite finished when Kristie, Lynley, and I got together to make our first CD. The Girlz insisted I add “Butterfly” as the last song of the CD. Albeit unfinished, I obliged.
My guitar student, Aaron, a recovering alcoholic at the ripe age of 23, handed me a verse, noticeably frustrated, and said he couldn’t do anything with it.
With his angry mindset as the back drop of the song, I added lyrics about, how viewing his life from a different angle (a butterfly’s wing) could perhaps give him a different, maybe even more hopeful, perspective. Remembering “All the beautiful, wonderful, magnificent places where we’ve been.”
The song is meant to be a reminder for all of us.
