Kitchen Tools

  • 2 ounce OR 5 ounce plastic cups
  • Baking Sheet / Cookie Sheet
  • Medium Saucepan
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • 2 Medium Bowls
  • Measuring Cup
  • Whisk or Wooden Spoon

Ingredients

Jello: Orange, Wild Berry and Knox unflavored gelatin create the three layers.

Sweetened Condensed Milk: Mixed with the unflavored gelatin it creates a creamy middle layer.

Light Rum (or Vodka): Light or White rum works the best because it doesn’t overpower the sweet and fruity flavors of the jello. You can also use a good vodka instead.

Cream Cheese Frosting: Colorful and sweet, the frosting holds the toppings and witches hat all together.

Gel Food Dye: We’ll use both purple and orange food coloring to give the frosting pops of color.

Oreo Cookies: To create the base of the witches hat.

Hershey’s Kisses: An unwrapped kiss completes the witches hat.

Candy Eyes: The candy eye completes the look of the these Hocus Pocus witches hat jello shots.

How to Make Hocus Pocus Jello Shots

Prep: Line up your plastic shot glasses on a baking sheet.

This catches any spillage as well as makes it easier to move them in and out of the refrigerator easily.

Orange Layer: The first step is to create the bottom layer.

Bring 1 cup of water to a boil, then remove from the heat. Pour the orange jello packet into the hot water and whisk until completely dissolved.

Add 1 cup of white rum and stir well.

Pour the orange jello mixture into the plastic shot glasses, filling up 1/3 of the cup. Place in the refrigerator for 2 hours or until the jello is completely set.

Orange jello mixed with hot water in a large bowl with a whisk.

White Layer: Next, we create the middle layer.

In a large mixing bowl, add two envelopes of unflavored gelatin. Add 1/2 cup of cold water and allow to sit for 5 minutes. The unflavored gelatin will mostly dissolve and have wrinkles on the surface.

Bring 1 cup of water to a boil and then pour the boiling water into the mixing bowl and stir until completely dissolved.

Add the condensed milk and 1/2 cup of rum. Mix well and set aside to cool.

Once the mixture is room temperature, pour over the orange jello. Filling another 1/3 of the mini jello shot glasses. Return the jello shots to the refrigerator and let set up for 2 hours.

Two jello shots with an orange layer on bottom and a white layer on top filling two-thirds of the plastic shot cups.

Purple Layer: Step 3 is to create the top jello layer.

Boil 1 cup of water and remove from heat. Stir in the grape jello until fully dissolved.

Add 1/2 cup of light rum and stir well. Let cool for 10-15 minutes so that it does not dissolve the white layer when added to the plastic jello shot cups.

Pour the grape jello mixture on top of the white layer, filling the cup just below the rim. Set in refrigerator for 2 hours or until the jello is set.

All three layers of jello in a plastic jello shot cup.

Cream Cheese Frosting Topping: The very top layer is deliciously sweet and keeps the Oreo cookies in place.

In a medium bowl, mix together cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract.

Divide the mixture in half into two bowls. Stir in orange food dye in one bowl and the purple food dye in the second bowl.

Top each jello shot with a layer of orange cream cheese mixture.

Hocus Pocus Witch’s Hat: The last step in the recipe is to make the yummy witch hat on top of the jello shot.

Place an oreo cookie on top of each Hocus Pocus jello shot.

Add a little purple cream cheese mixture to the center of the cookie. This will hold the Hershey’s Kiss in place. Lightly press the kiss into the purple frosting.

Add a dot of orange cream cheese mixture on the side of the Hershey Kiss and press a candy eye on top of it.

Keep in the fridge until you’re ready to serve.

How Many Jello Shots does this Recipe Make?

If you want to make a large batch, use the standard 2 ounce condiment cups. Each layer will be much smaller, which means it will set up quicker and you’ll have about 14-16 jello shots to serve.

If you want to create larger jello shots, use the 5.5 ounce plastic cups. The layers will be bigger and will take longer in the refrigerator to set up. With these 5.5 ounce shot cups, this recipe will make 7-8 Hocus Pocus jello shots.

If you’re looking for a special Halloween treat that will excite your guests, look no further than these Hocus Pocus Jello Shots! These sweet, creamy shots are delicious and your friends and family will love them!

Happy Halloween!
