Hog Wild for Hog Heaven in the Florida Keys

Living the island lifestyle is just fine with me.  Seafood, sand and snorklin’ are my favorite things about living in Florida, plus exploring all of the Florida Keys is a bucket list for me.

While heading to Key West on one of those “why not” just hit the road and go trips, everything was unplanned all the way down to what to we would eat along the way.  After we looked at the clock and our location, we’d be rolling into Islamorada at 1am in the morning. We were pushing our droids and smart phones to the max when up popped “Hog Heaven” 2 miles up US 1.  We called, they answered and to our surprise said “Yes we are opened and serving”.

Upon arrival we really loved the Hog “biker decor” and fancy old car DJ booth.  You have to love a place with a tall frog wearing a scuba set up. The place has great character and openness like many great places in the Florida Keys.

We chose to sit out side on the back deck for fresh air and who knew we were right on a dock?  We ordered such a verity of food because no one just wanted seafood, steak or chicken.  We had their conch fritters for our appetizer and that was when we got hooked.  We actual ordered another round of fritters.  The meal was awesome.  None of us ordered their barbeque, but everyone around us did.  The smell was fantastic.  As we headed out the door we promised to return to try their popular barbecue.

We finished our trip to Key West and planned it perfect to stop and have lunch there on our way home.  I could not believe my eyes as we toured around this restaurant in the daylight.

I couldn’t believe they had a beach with seating for you to stretch out and enjoy your view of the Atlantic as you sip on your cocktail.  Out back they offer deck dining with beautiful views.  Things really do look better in the sun shine.

This is a true hidden treasure and a great find for us.  Hungry with our minds made up to have the BBQ ribs and a pulled pork sandwich. Wow was I really in Hog Heaven…   They really know how to cook up some barbecue.  My now new favorite stop leaving the Keys is Hog Heaven.  I could never imagine finding good barbeque in the Florida, but I did.  Florida Keys has now filled all my little food loves with this great find.

Hog heaven needs to be a stop you make when visiting the Florida Keys. Their menu offers a variety of sandwiches, burgers, BBQ and fish which is sure to please you and your traveling group.  The time factor when coming down the Florida Keys late at night is perfect -their food hours  11am  – 3:30am.  So glad to get to Key West , so sad to leave Key West.  But Hog Heaven just made it a little easier for me to head home on a full BBQ pork belly.

I live close to A1A and love this stretch of road that leads me to so many adventures! I'm perfectly situated between my two wonderful children. I love to visit my daughter in the FL panhandle and my son in Key West. I'm a Parrot Head and I love Trop Rock music!

A cool locale indeed, and well written Millie. A whole other vibe after the sun slips into the sea.
