Air Fryer hand pies can be made from scratch or with pre-made ingredients. Since easy and delicious are my favorite types of air fryer recipes, this air fryer hand pie recipe is made with all premade ingredients for a tasty air fried hand pie treat.

What Are Hand Pies?

Hand Pies are mini baked pies (in this case, these are air fried) that are small enough to fit in your hand.

Hand pies in general can be filled with a variety of ingredients. A sweet hand pie is a luscious dessert and a savory hand pie typically includes a scrumptious meat filling. All hand pies include the buttery, flaky crust envelope.

In this recipe, we’re making air fryer peach hand pies with a crispy pie crust and white cookie icing on top. These individual peach pies are fun little desserts so easy to make.

The beauty of hand pies is you can fill them with your choice of pie fillings. So, although this recipe is using peach pie filling, you can use any pie filling.

How Does An Air Fryer Work?

If you enjoy making easy appetizers, meals and desserts, an air fryer is the handiest kitchen appliance. I use it for just about everything and pretty much can’t live without it. Air fryer recipes are usually quicker, easier and just as delectable.

An air fryer uses a powerful fan to circulate heat all around the food to cook it evenly while crisping the outside and cooking the inside without drying. It’s much like a mini convection oven.

The benefits of an air fryer are:

  • Typically quicker than oven baking.
  • Perfect crispiness when called for because it bakes the outside while keeping the inside juicy.
  • Healthier than deep frying
  • Cooks food evenly
  • Easy to clean

All win-win benefits for the cook and you’re family!

Air Fryer Hand Pies

With minimal ingredients, these Air Fryer Hand Pies are truly quick and easy. A fun and sweet air fryer dessert that anyone can make.

Simply, wrap tender fruit pie filling in flaky pie crust and these juicy mini hand pies are ready in 15 minutes in the air fryer.

As I said, I’m all about easy recipes and pre-made pie crust is simple and delicious, so no need to make it from scratch. Premade pie crust is easy to roll out and cut into perfect little circles to make mini air fried hand pies.

A small amount of pie filling is scooped onto one round piece of pie crust. Then, the second round piece of pie crust is placed on top. Using a fork or a cool gadget called a sandwich sealer, the edges of the dough are melded together to close the pie.

Of course, you can make these hand pies with your favorite homemade pie crust recipe and homemade pie filling. It’s up to you!

Air Fryer Hand Pies Variations

When I make air fryer hand pies, I use canned pie filling. Canned pie filling already includes all the rich fruit and pie spices for making hand pies taste perfect. Again, your own homemade pie filling will work beautifully too.

Here’s a list of canned fruit pie fillings perfect for making air fryer hand pies:

  • Peach
  • Apple
  • Cherry
  • Blueberry
  • Pineapple
  • Caramel Apple

This simple recipe is the same for the above flavors for air fryer hand pies. Pick your favorite or try them all!

How to Make Air Fryer Hand Pies

Follow these easy step-by-step directions and you’ll have delicious air fryer hand pies in less than 30 minutes.

Step 1: Roll out pre-made pie crust on a cutting board.

Step 2: Cut out round pie crust circles with a cookie cutter or sandwich sealer, a kitchen tool that both cuts and seals hand pies.

Step 3: Scoop a half spoon full of pie filling onto half of your pie crust circles.

Here I’m using peach pie filling. If you want to see another example, here’s an air fryer hand pie recipe using apple pie filling.

Adding pie filling on top of pie crust circle.

Step 4: Place the remaining pie crust circles on top of the fruit and seal. In this air fryer peach hand pie recipe, I’m using a sandwich sealer to meld the crust together.

Tip: If you don’t have a sandwich sealer, simply use a fork to seal the hand pies.

In my apple air fryer hand pie recipe, I used a fork to seal the pies. Here’s a photo of what your pies will look like when using a fork. Both methods work perfectly!

Tip: Another tip for melding the edges of the pie crust, if your pie filling is lumpy, you may need to roll the plain pie crust circles with a rolling pin to stretch them slightly to cover over the pie filling.

Step 5: Whisk one egg in a small bowl with a fork. Then egg wash each pie using a baking brush.

Step 6: Arrange the hand pies in your air fryer basket or on an air fryer rack (depending on your model), making sure there is a little space between each pie.

Step 7: Place pies in the air fryer for 6-8 minutes at 350 degrees.

Tip: Every air fryer cooks a little differently. When you first make this recipe, check the hand pies at 6 minutes. If the crust isn’t golden yet, continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes. There is no harm in opening the air fryer for a quick peek.

Step 8: Remove from the air fryer and place on a cooling rack.

Step 9: Add cookie icing on top (optional).

Tip: Not all flavors of hand pies go with white cookie icing. But, it does taste delicious on top of these peach hand pies! Another option could be to top it with vanilla ice cream. Yum!

How to Store Left Over Hand Pies

If you have leftover air fryer hand pies, you should refrigerate them in an air-tight container.

Because this recipe uses an egg, hand pies should not be left out at room temperature. You can keep them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Any longer and the pie crust may become too soggy to enjoy.

How to Reheat Air Fryer Hand Pies

To keep the right texture for the crust, you can reheat air fried pies in the air fryer or the oven. Reheating in the microwave will not allow the crust to turn out crisp again. It’ll be soft and gummy.

To reheat in the oven, bake for 7-10 minutes at 250 degrees. To reheat in the air fryer, set the cook time for 3-5 minutes at 320 degrees.
