Tropical drinks in the summer are my favorite pleasure! Bright blue drinks are fun, delicious and seriously eye-catching. Just as beautiful as this Electric Smurf drink, try this gorgeous Blue Mojito, the creamy Blue Hawaiian or the stunning Blue Lagoon.

The Electric Smurf is an easy-to-make cocktail and great for any summer occasion. Sip by the pool, serve at a backyard BBQ or make it as a featured drink at your next tropical-themed party.

Ingredients

This drink is easy to make with four ingredients:

• 1.5 ounces Malibu Coconut Rum
• 1 ounce Blue Curacao
• 2 ounces Pineapple Juice
• 2 ounces Lemon-Lime Soda

What Does Blue Curacao Taste Like?

Blue Curacao is actually an orange liqueur with a slightly bitter finish. It’s not as sweet as other orange liqueurs because it’s made from the Laraha orange. The Laraha orange is a bitter fruit and for the most part, inedible.

Blue Curacao is actually made from the rinds from this bitter orange along with a variety of spices, sugar and alcohol.

The blue color comes from food coloring. It was added as a marketing tactic to sell more bottles and more drinks at the bar. It’s a great liqueur without the color, but it’s so much more fun when you’re sipping on a blue drink!

How to Make an Electric Smurf Drink

Step 1: Fill a cocktail glass with ice.

Step 2: Add one shot of Malibu Coconut Rum.

 

Step 3: Add 2 ounces of Pineapple Juice

 

Step 4: Add approximately 1 ounce of Blue Curacao (a little less than a full shot).

 

Step 5: Top with 2 ounces of Lemon-Lime Soda.

You can use Sprite or 7-up, whichever is your favorite.

This drink is already sweet from the pineapple juice. I find 7-up to be less sweet than Sprite, so I prefer 7-up for this cocktail.

 

Step 6: Add Garnish.

A slice of pineapple or orange along with a few Maraschino cherries.

And I think every blue drink should come with a brightly colored drink umbrella!

 

Electric Smurf Drink Variations

This is a drink you can play with the ingredients to match your tastes. Add a little more or a little less of any of the ingredients to make your taste buds happy. Here are a few Electric Smurf variations you might want to try:

• Replace 1.5 ounces of pineapple juice with Pineapple Rum. It’ll make for an extra boozy cocktail.
• Use Sprite instead of 7-up for a slightly sweeter drink.
• If you want the blue color but prefer a less bitter finish of the Blue Curacao, add an ounce of orange juice. It helps smooth out the bitter finish of Blue Curacao.
