What is the Best Champagne for a Green Mimosa?

The type of Champagne or Sparkling Wine you use in a mimosa is important because it’s the main liquor.

Champagne / Sparkling Wine is available in varying degrees of sweetness.

For mimosas, it’s always best to use a less sweet champagne. Since the orange juice is already sweet, use a Brut or Extra Brut champagne. This will keep your mimosa from becoming too sweet.

Can I use Prosecco Instead of Champagne?

Absolutely! Prosecco tastes a little sweeter than Champagne due to the type of grapes used to make Prosecco. Again, use a Brut Prosecco to keep your Green Mimosas from becoming too sweet.

Of course, if you are looking to make your St. Patrick’s Day cocktails sweeter, then use an Extra Dry, which is sweeter but not overpowering.

Can I use Cava?

For sure! Cava has a refreshing and crisp acidity that is balanced by a subtle sweetness.

It typically has a fruity flavor profile with notes of apple, lemon, and pear, and sometimes a hint of almond or hazelnut.

Again, Cava has varying degrees of sweetness and you should look for a Brut.

Ingredients

All you need are 3 simple ingredients:

Orange Juice: the traditional fruit juice used in mimosas which pairs deliciously with sparkling wine. Use a pulp-free orange juice to keep these tasty drinks smooth.

Blue Curacao: add a twist to a traditional mimosa by adding Blue Curacao. It’s a blue liqueur that has a slightly bitter orange flavor that adds a little tart to this St. Patrick’s Day drink. It also adds a small amount of alcohol and most importantly the blue color that mixes with the orange juice to create a gorgeous green hue for a St. Patrick’s Day cocktail.

Champagne: The essential ingredient in any traditional mimosa. Again, choose a Brut or the slightly sweeter Extra Brut to balance the sweetness of the fruit juice.
