Rum Punch Recipe
Break out the rum! This Rum Punch recipe is just what we need as the weather is warming up and summer is just around the corner. Weekends in the sun with fun tropical drinks are finally back (for some, they probably never left!).
Recently, I was in my nearby grocery store and spied this great little device. It cores and slices a fresh pineapple and I decided to buy it to experiment, especially since I received a free pineapple with the purchase! Before trying out the new gadget, I decided to come up with something more thirst quenching than a Pina Colada.
After experimenting with a few drink recipes that didn’t quite do the trick, I thought about a refreshing rum punch.
Who should come to my mind but John Cunningham, author of the Buck Reilly adventure book series. You may know that John also writes song lyrics and he penned the words for the song “Rum Punch,” which Thom Shepherd set to music and recorded (here’s the story on how that came about, plus you can watch and listen to a video of the song).
So this truly is a Trop Rock Rum Punch recipe!
Anyway, I contacted John and requested his best rum punch concoction and it turned out to be the perfect libation to fill my pineapple.
So, here is how you make it:
John Cunningham’s Rum Punch (inspired by the Hemingway Rum Company)
- 1 oz of Papa’s Pilar Dark
- 1 oz Papa’s Pilar Blonde Rum
- 2 oz each of Guava fruit juice
- 2 oz Passion fruit juice
- ½ oz fresh lemon juice
- Mix together and top with shaved nutmeg (not powder)
Garnish with a great song, a slice of your pineapple and little umbrella. Enjoy your new Rum Punch recipe!
