- They are a fun adult treat!
- The perfect cocktail for a fun way to get the party started.
- If you have a special event, these are fantastic fancy jello shots.
- These make a colorful display. You can use all colors of the starburst candies if you want. Add any color on top for the decoration of the jello shots. Have fun with them!
What is the Starburst Duos Gelatin Variety Pack?
Starburst released a variety pack of 4 flavors of gelatin all in one box called Starburst Duos.
Talk about making it easy to create layered jello shots!
The Starburst Duos variety pack includes these flavors:
- Blue Raspberry
- Lemon
- Strawberry
- Watermelon
What Flavors of Gelatin Should You Put Together?
You can mix and match the gelatin flavors as you prefer, but here is how I matched up my Starburst jello shots to make these delicious flavors:
- I added the blue raspberry jello on the bottom with the lemon jello on top. The lemon flavor goes well with the raspberry and the blue and yellow look great together. From the side you can see the layers and from the top, the two colors make green. Lastly, top with a bright yellow starburst candy.
- For the second set of jello shots, I layered the Strawberry jell-o mix with the Watermelon jello flavor. The watermelon jello is a green gelatin, so it looks great with the strawberry. Plus, The two berry flavors are complimentary. Add red or pink starburst candies for garnish.
Kitchen Tools Needed
- 20 Plastic Shot Glasses, 3 oz (plastic condiment cups)
- Small Saucepan
- Measuring Cup
- Baking Sheet
- Whisk or Spoon
Ingredients
1 box Starburst Duos Gelatin Variety Pack
3 cups of Water
3 cups of Light Rum (or vodka)
20 Mini Starburst Candies (optional for garnish)
How do you make Jello Shots with Starburst Duos?
This Starburst Jello Shots recipe does take a little longer than regular jell-o shots because of the extra chill time needed between the jello layers. Making them is easy, it’s just waiting for them to chill is the hard part!
STEP 1: Line up your small plastic jello shot cups on a baking sheet / cookie sheet. This will make it easier to shuffle them in and out of the refrigerator.
STEP 2: In a small saucepan, heat ¾ cup of water on high, until boiling.
STEP 3: Remove the boiling water from heat and stir in the blue raspberry jello powder, until fully dissolved.
STEP 4: Add in ¾ cup of rum (or vodka, if you prefer) and stir well.
TIP: Pour mixture into a large measuring cup or any container that has a spout. It makes it much easier to pour the jello mix into the shot cups.
STEP 5: Pour the blue jello mixture evenly among 10 mini plastic shot glasses, filling each about halfway.
STEP 6: Repeat steps 2-5 with the strawberry jell-o mix to make the bottom layer in the second set of 10 plastic shot glasses.
STEP 7: Refrigerate all 20 jello shots of for 1 1/2 hours or until the jello is set.
STEP 8: Repeat the steps to make the second layer of gelatin, allowing the gelatin to cool down before you pour the mixture on top of the first layer of gelatin.
TIP: Test the temperature of the jello mixture before pouring it on top of the bottom layer. If it’s too warm, it’ll mix with the bottom layer. To keep distinct layers, the jello mixture must be cool to the touch before adding it on top of the already chilled bottom layer.
STEP 9: Pour the lemon jello mix on top of the blue raspberry jello. And pour the watermelon jello mix on top of the strawberry jello.
STEP 10: Place the Starburst Jello Shots back in the refrigerator and allow gelatin to set completely for 2-3 hours.
STEP 11: For garnish, place a mini Starburst candy on top of the jello shots. Add the starburst candies just before serving.
What Type of Rum Should I use?
Light rum is best for Starburst jello shots. It’s a mild liquor with citrus and berry notes so it does not overpower the jello flavors. Bacardi Light Rum is my choice.
What If I Want to Use Vodka?
Vodka works great with Starburst jello shots. You can use plain vodka or add even more flavor by using a berry flavored vodka.
