Here’s how to make a stunning Red, White, and Blue Margarita to celebrate the Stars and Stripes for your upcoming Memorial Day bash or 4th of July party.

This Red, White, and Blue Margarita and it’s tantalizing layers (yes, I said tantalizing!) makes the perfect patriotic cocktail for your Memorial Day parties or 4th of July celebration.

We’re going to basically make a classic margarita mixed with a strawberry margarita and add a little bit of Blue Curacao. This fruity combo will make your 4th of July margarita ahh-mazing.

So, grab your blender and let’s get mixing!

Now, this festive patriotic cocktail takes a little extra time, so if you want to go the easy route (I totally understand), simply make these Blue Margaritas and add some cute red white and blue cocktail picks to hold your garnish.

Why You’ll Love this Red White and Blue Margarita

  • Combines classic margarita flavors with a patriotic twist.
  • The sweet and tangy layers meld perfectly with blanco tequila.
  • These 4th of July margaritas are as delicious as they are colorful!

Kitchen Equipment Needed

Here’s everything you’ll need to make these patriotic margaritas:

  • High-powered blender: You’ll need a blender that can make crushed ice easily! I use a Nija Blender and it crushes ice like a boss!!!
  • 2 Glasses, 6-8 ounces each
  • 2 separate containers to hold the red and white layers while you’re making the last layer.

Ingredients

TIP: Be sure to chill all ingredients to keep it extra cold!

TEQUILA: Use your favorite Silver tequila (also known as Blanco tequila).

COINTREAU: Orange liqueur is a must have for great margarita recipes. You can substitute with Triple sec or Grand Marnier.

BLUE CURACAO: This is an orange liqueur that’s a bright blue color.

FROZEN STRAWBERRIES: For the red layer, we’re making a strawberry margarita.

GRENADINE: A fruity syrup that will add a little extra flavor and make the red layer pop.

LIME JUICE: Used in all three layers, it’s acidic tart flavor balances the sweet.

SIMPLE SYRUP: Adds a little sweetness to your red white and blue margaritas.

ICE: To make a thick slushy consistency.

How to Make a Red White and Blue Margarita

Now comes the fun part! We’ll make the different layers separately, then combine them into each glass.

STEP 1: Start by rimming your glasses: Use a lime wedge to wet the rim and then dip it into margarita salt. Note: If you are using sanding sugar instead, wet the rim by dipping the edges into a small saucer of simple sugar.

STEP 2: Create the Red Layer by combining 2 1/2 cups of ice, 1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries, 2 ounces tequila, 1 ounce Cointreau, 2 ounces grenadine, and 1 ounce lime juice. Blend until slushy and set the red mixture aside in a different container.

STEP 3: Make the White Layer: Rinse your blender really well to remove any red coloring. Then add 2 1/2 cups ice, 2 ounces  tequila, 1 ounce Cointreau, 2 ounces lime juice, and 1 tablespoon simple syrup. Blend until slushy and set the white mixture aside in a separate container.

STEP 4: Make the last layer, which is the Blue Layer: Blend together 2 1/2 cups ice, 2 ounces tequila, 3 ounces Blue Curacao and 1 ounce lime juice until it also has a slushy consistency.

STEP 5: Time to layer it up: Take your glasses and begin pouring the blue mixture as the base layer. Follow it up with the white mixture and top it off with the red mixture. Be sure to gently pour each layer over the back of a spoon, or use a scoop to add a little at a time in order to create better separation between each of the colors.

STEP 6: Garnish and Serve: Finish off your patriotic margaritas with a lime wheel and a fresh strawberry on the rim of each glass. Serve immediately while the layers red white and blue layers are well separated and the cocktails are cold.

Variations

  • Go the super simple route: You can always make your favorite margarita, then divide it into 3 parts and use red and blue food coloring.
  • If your blue layers are not blue enough, add Blue Curaçao a teaspoon at a time until you like the blue layer color.

Margarita Slushy Tips:

  • Add a little more ice as needed to get the consistency you want.
  • Sample each layer as you make it! This way, you can make any adjustments to the amount of tequila or the other ingredients before you move on to the next layer.
  • If it’s taking you longer than expected to make each layer, simply place your containers of separate margarita layers in the freezer to keep them icy.
  • Start with chilled ingredients. This will keep your ice from melting as quick.

Kick off your 4th of July holiday with this fun Red White and Blue Margarita.

Cheers!
