Who turns down a bowl of perfectly cooked pasta tossed in a flavorful sauce? I certainly don’t!

This White Wine Chicken Pasta recipe includes juicy chicken mixed with a white wine sauce made with garlic and oregano to add a bright flavor and a hint of Italian seasoning flair. And… it’s such an easy pasta dinner!

The chicken and pasta will adsorb the flavors of the dry white wine creating a savory and tangy dish with just a hint of sweetness. The majority of the alcohol will evaporate leaving a light sauce, not a thick or creamy sauce that will weigh you down.

Easy pasta recipes are perfect for any night of the week and this recipe delivers a lot of flavor on a small budget.

You can even dress it up with fresh parsley, a squeeze of lemon juice and serve this restaurant-quality meal for a date night. It’s impressive, yet a great recipe anyone can make.

What is the Best Wine for a White Wine Sauce?

Use a dry white wine that leans towards citrus flavors. This white wine chicken pasta goes well with these two types of wine:

  • Sauvignon Blanc: Dry white wine with acidic notes.
  • Italian Pinot Grigio: Also a dry white, but with more fruity notes.

The best wine to use is the one you know you already enjoy!

You can always opt for a simple sauce without wine like this garlic butter pasta sauce.

Kitchen Equipment Needed

  • Large Pot: Large enough to ensure there’s room to boil your pasta.
  • Large Deep Skillet: Again, pick a large size to accommodate all your ingredients without overcrowding.
  • Cutting Board: Use a cutting board to slice chicken and mince garlic.
  • Knife
  • Spatula

Ingredients

Here are all the ingredients to make our homemade chicken pasta with white wine sauce:

BOW TIE PASTA: Farfalle pasta works beautifully with sauces! Plus, look at that pretty bow shape. Feel free to use your favorite pasta shape. Penne or egg noodles will also work well.

CHICKEN BREAST: Chicken and pasta duo is a hit you can’t go wrong with. Use boneless skinless chicken breasts.

GARLIC: For the most fragrant results, use fresh minced garlic. Fresh garlic will boost the flavor of your dish. Go with garlic powder if you don’t have fresh garlic.

SPICES: I keep things simple with oregano, salt and black pepper. And honestly, that’s all you need for a flavorful dish!

WHITE WINE: It adds acidity and a nice flavor to the dish. Plus, you need a liquid to deglaze the pan. If you don’t have wine, substitute it with a little chicken stock. The flavor will be different, but delicious.

OLIVE OIL: A drizzle to star to cook the chicken. Then add it to the white wine sauce for more richness and flavor to the dish.

FETA CHEESE: Add complex flavors with crumbled feta cheese. It’s subtly sweet and an excellent salty profile. Parmesan cheese will work, as well.

GRAPE OR CHERRY TOMATOES: These bite-sized tomatoes are juicy, tasty and add color to the dish.

How to Make White Wine Chicken Pasta

Follow these easy step-by-step instructions.

Cook Pasta

Bring a large pot of water to boil and cook pasta to package directions.

Prep Ingredients

Mince garlic, slice tomatoes in half, and dice chicken.

Cook Chicken Breasts

Drizzle a large deep skillet with olive oil and heat to medium high.

Add chicken to hot skillet and season with salt and pepper.

Once the chicken is fully cooked, add garlic and oregano to pan and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

Add white wine to deglaze the pan, scraping the bottom of the pan with a spatula or wooden spoon to release any brown bits.

Add olive oil and stir to combine.

Reduce heat to low.

Add Remaining Ingredients

Add the cooked and drained bowtie pasta and stir to coat the pasta with the sauce.

Continue cooking for about 1-2 minutes to warm the tomatoes and cheese.

Remove from heat and serve.

Cooking Tips

  • Always cook pasta to al dente (slightly firm texture) on medium heat. Pasta continues to cook even after you drain it.
  • Make sure your skillet is hot before adding the chicken to cook evenly and get a nice sear. I recommend using medium-high heat to retain as much moisture in the chicken as possible.

Variations to Try

Season All You Want: Use black pepper, cayenne pepper, or red pepper flakes for a spicy recipe. Cajun seasoning or onion powder tastes great with white wine chicken pasta.

Add Veggies: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different veggies like sun-dried tomatoes, green beans, spinach, or mushrooms. Red bell pepper and green bell pepper will bring fun colors to the dish.

Make a Creamy Sauce: Use heavy cream or cream cheese to make a luscious creamy chicken pasta dish.

Can I Make this a Low-Calorie Meal?

Pasta dishes are not typically low calorie. But, you can reduce calories in this white wine chicken pasta several ways:

  • Use whole wheat pasta to increase the fiber content.
  • Use less oil in the dish by sautéing ingredients in water or low-sodium chicken broth instead.
  • Add more vegetables and reduce the amount of pasta in the dish.

How to Store Bowtie Chicken Pasta?

Got leftovers? Keep them in an airtight container and slide them into the fridge. It’ll last up to 3 days.

To reheat, simply microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between each heating,  until hot. Or warm up on the stovetop on low heat with a little bit of extra olive oil to prevent sticking.
