Kitchen Equipment Needed

Air fryer fried green beans only use a minimum of kitchen tools, making clean up a snap!

  • 3 Shallow Bowls: For your dredging station to dip the green beans.
  • Air Fryer: If you don’t have one, I highly recommend investing in it. It’s a game-changer when it comes to cooking healthier meals. Also, the cooking process is a breeze.
  • Whisk: to whisk the eggs.

Ingredients for Air Fryer Fried Green Beans

ALL-PURPOSE FLOUR: The flour helps the egg mixture stick better. Shake off excess flour before you dip the beans into the egg mixture.

OPTIONAL SEASONINGS: Add seasonings to your flour for extra flavor! Choose your favorite seasonings such as black pepper, Cajun Seasoning, Italian Seasoning, etc…

EGGS: Use eggs at room temperature for faster cooking.

PARMESAN CHEESE: Cheese makes everything better. Adding cheese to your green beans is a great way to bump the protein content and make the dish healthier.

PANKO BREADCRUMBS: It’s the crispy coating and the golden brown hue that makes these green beans such a hit. The hero? Breadcrumbs (and the air fryer, of course)

GREEN BEANS: Use fresh green beans. Frozen ones will get soft and watery in the air fryer and won’t give you the best results.

COOKING SPRAY: I use olive oil, but feel free to use any neutral cooking oil spray. Sesame and avocado oil are great options for high-heat cooking. You can’t leave the oil out; it helps lock the moisture in and give the green beans that lovely crunch.

How to Make Air Fryer Fried Green Beans

Clean and Dry: Wash your green beans and pat them dry. The drier the better. We don’t want the water thinning out the egg wash.

Create Dredging Station: Use 1 bowl for the whisked eggs. In the second bowl, add flour. In the third bowl mix together breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese.

Dip the Beans: Dip the green beans in this order: eggs, flour, eggs again then roll in the breadcrumb mixture.

Step 1: Dip in Eggs.

Raw green beans in a bowl of whisked eggs.

Step 2: Dip in flour until fully coated.

coated green beans in flour.

Step 3: Dip in egg again, gently. You will loose some of the flour, but you want to be gentle as to keep as much flour on the green beans as possible.

Step 4: Roll in the Panko breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese mixture until fully coated.

Two green beans coated with egg and flour in the bowl of panko breadcrumbs.

Air Fry: Pre-heat the air fryer to 375 degrees F. Arrange breaded green beans in the air fryer basket and spray with cooking spray. Air fryer for 8-10 minutes until golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Tips for Making the Perfect Parmesan Green Bean Fries

  • Completely dry your green beans before adding them to the egg mixture. Any excess moisture will make the coating slide off.
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. Spread the green beans in a single layer for even cooking and maximum crispiness. If you’re air-frying a whole pound of green beans, work in batches.

Variations to Try

This green bean fries recipe is fun to customize. Adjust it to please your tastebuds or to stick to your dietary requirements.

Here are a few things I’ve done:

Season the Flour: Enhance flavor by adding garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and onion powder to the flour.

Make it Spicy: Boost the heat with red pepper flakes. Sprinkle some on top of your crispy green beans after air frying.

Add Tanginess with Lemon: Squeeze fresh lemon juice or slice it into wedges before serving. I love how the green and yellow come together to make this dish aesthetic.

Bread Differently: Almond flour breading will be a great alternative if you’re on the keto diet. Also, you can swap the breadcrumbs with crushed pork rinds.

Dip Craze: Serve fried green beans with homemade ranch dressing, sriracha mayo, or any of your favorite dipping sauces. I love mine with a garlic aioli dip.

Can I Use French Green Beans Instead?

Of course you can! The only difference between green beans and French green beans is of size. The latter are skinnier and longer, which also makes for great green bean fries.

Note: French green beans are different than the French style green beans that come in the can. Only use fresh green beans.

Do I Soak Green Beans Before Air-Frying?

Nope! No need to add another step. Simply wash them to remove dirt and pat them dry before moving them through the breading station.

How Can I Store Leftovers?

Air fryer Parmesan green beans are perfect when served hot and crisp. But if you have any leftovers, you can keep them in the fridge for 4 days easily.

Pick your favorite airtight container, slide your leftover cooked green beans in it, and toss it in the fridge.

How do I Reheat Air Fryer Green Bean Fries?

To revive the maximum crisp, place them back in the air fryer for 4-5 minutes at 370 degrees F. Add 1-2 minutes cook time if they are not crispy enough.
