Ingredients

All you need are a few simple ingredients to make this easy Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts recipe:

BRUSSELS SPROUTS: Use similar sized sprouts for this recipe to make sure they all cook at the same rate of time. The larger sprouts are not as tender as the smaller ones, so look for the small size in your grocery store.

PARMESAN CHEESE: You will find that using grated Parmesan cheese is going to work the best. It will melt down a bit and create a cheesy coating. You can use vegan Parmesan cheese to keep this recipe entirely plant based.

SEASONINGS: Kosher salt, ground black pepper, granulated garlic, dried thyme and smoked paprika

EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL: You’ll only need very little oil for this recipe. The oil is used for creating a crispy outside of the Brussels sprouts. You can use other oils such as avocado or Canola oil if you prefer.

TIP: If you want to make your clean up easier – grab these air fryer parchment papers on Amazon and place them under the plate in your air fryer. It’ll help catch any drippings and cheese.

How to Make Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts

STEP 1: Start by rinsing and removing the top layers of your leaves if they are dried or yellow. If your Brussels sprouts have a bottom stem, cut those off as well.

STEP 2: Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove all the excess moisture. Then cut each of the Brussels sprouts in half. Aim for each half to be about an

STEP 3: Next, toss the halved Brussels sprouts into a medium bowl and add in the oil and all the seasonings. Stir together until mixed well.

STEP 4: Pre-heat the air fryer for 2 minutes at 350 degrees F.

STEP 5: Place your Brussels sprouts in a single layer in the air fryer basket or tray and set your cook time for 8-10 minutes. Half way through the cook time, remove the basket and give it a good shake to turn the sprouts. This way no one spot will over crisp or burn.

Check that the outside crispiness is to your liking. If you want them a little crisper, add another 1-2 extra minutes.

STEP 6: The Brussels sprouts will shrink as they cook. Give them another good shake in the basket to mix them up and then gather them off to one side of the basket, still keeping them in pretty much in a single layer.

Tips and Variations for this Recipe

Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts are an easy vegetable to change up the flavoring. Here’s a few ideas:

  • Instead of extra virgin olive oil try using avocado oil, sesame or balsamic vinegar for a twist in flavor.
  • Add different spices for extra flavor to add to your crispy sprouts, such as garlic powder or Cajun seasoning.
  • Add some lemon zest or a drizzle of lemon juice or lime juice for a citrus flavor before cooking.
  • Make sure to trim Brussels sprouts before you roast them.
  • Drizzle with balsamic glaze for a different flavor profile.

How to Store Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts

If you have leftover cooked Brussels sprouts, place them in an airtight container and store in the fridge. You can store leftovers for up to 3-4 days. You can reheat them in the microwave, but it is best to reheat in the basket of an air fryer for just a few minutes to crisp and warm up the roasted Brussels sprouts.

You can even warm up in the regular oven. Place on a baking sheet in a single layer, and then cook for 5 minutes or so at 350 degrees. The cooking time will vary, just heat until they are warmed.

Can I Air Fry Brussel Sprouts Without Oil?

Yes, you can but you’ll need to use some kind of substitute. Oil is essential in tenderizing as well as crisping the outer leaves. If you don’t want to use oil, you will need to lightly coat them with something in order for them to crisp up.

Dry vegetables don’t come out as well in an air fryer. So, you can add other liquids like:

  • Maple Syrup
  • Oil Free Salad Dressing
  • Honey
  • Lemon Juice

Can you eat the stalk of Brussels sprouts?

The stalk is pretty tough. You’ll want to trim off the stalk of the sprouts as well as the outer leaves. You can also trim off the tough bottom core of the large sprouts. That way when you slice the sprouts you’re only working with the tender part of the vegetable.

Does the size of the sprouts matter?

Yes, you will find that 1-inch Brussels sprouts offer the best flavor. If you buy them and they are pretty large, they can have more of a bitter or sour flavor to them. I recommend going for the smaller sized sprouts.

If you do end up with larger Brussel Sprouts, cut them in quarters instead of just in half.

Delicious Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts are an easy recipe that you will enjoy making over and over again. I have love how the air fryer creates that perfect crispy golden texture each and every single time. So grab that air fryer basket, toss those sprouts in and get to cooking this simple side dish.
