 Air Fryer Pumpkin Hand Pies

I love simple air fryer recipes that taste scrumptious. It’s about balancing the time it takes in the kitchen and time spent with family and friends. Give me an easy recipe everyone will love and I’m thrilled!

That’s why I love air fryer hand pies made with canned pie mix or canned pie filling and premade pie crusts!

Depending on the fruit filling, the recipe only needs 3-5 ingredients. The recipes for Air Fryer Apple Hand Pies and Peach Hand Pies are so good and have only 3 ingredients.

This air fryer mini pumpkin pie recipe needs two extra ingredients than the above-mentioned recipes. There are 5 ingredients instead of 3 because the pumpkin pie mix is different than canned fruit filling.

Best part? The canned pumpkin pie mix already includes all the delectable fall pumpkin pie spices.

What is an Air Fryer?

If air frying is new to you, you’re going to love it! The name is a bit off, as there is no actual frying involved when using an air fryer. It’s really a mini convection oven that uses extra high heat and a fan to circulate that heat.

The high heat is whisked all around the food in the air fryer basket so it cooks more evenly than oven baking.

The name “air fryer” came about most likely to market it to people looking to replace deep frying food with healthier options. Quite a few deep fry recipes that normally use high fat oils can be converted into healthier air fryer recipes without losing the delicious taste and crispy crunch.

A bonus in using an air fryer is it also does a great job with baking desserts! And it’s a super easy cooking method for creating these air fried pumpkin hand pies.

How to make Air Fryer Pumpkin Hand Pies

Here are the easy step-by-step directions:

Step 1: Roll the pie crust out into a large flat circle.

Step 2: Use a round cookie cutter or sandwich cutter to cut out circles in the pie crust.

Step 3: In a large bowl, mix Canned Pumpkin Pix Mix, eggs and condensed milk.

Step 4: Add a spoon of pumpkin filling and place it in the middle of half of your circles.

Tip: Make sure to leave enough room around the edges to seal the hand pies.

Step 5: Place the remaining pie crust circles on top of the pumpkin mix circles and seal the edges with the sandwich sealer.

Tip: If you don’t have a sandwich sealer, simply meld the edges of the crust together with a fork.

Step 6: Whisk one egg in a small bowl and egg wash each mini pumpkin pie.

Step 7: Place the pumpkin pies in the air fryer at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes.

Tip: Make sure you arrange the mini pumpkin pies in the air fryer basket or air fryer rack (depending on your model) with little space between each one. Stacking or overlapping will not allow the hot air to circulate around each hand pie.

Tip: There will be cook time variations among the different air fryer models. The first time you make this recipe, set the timer for 15 minutes, but start checking the hand pies at the 12 minute mark.

If they aren’t golden brown, continue air frying. There is no harm in pulling out the air fryer basket for a quick peek to make sure the pies don’t get overcooked.

Step 7: Remove the mini pumpkin pies from the air fryer and place them on a cooling rack.

Step 8: Top with white cookie icing.

How to Store Pumpkin Hand Pies

Any leftover mini pumpkin hand pies should be refrigerated in an air-tight container. This recipe includes eggs and milk, so they should not be left out at room temperature for storage.

Refrigerating them for up to 3 days will keep them fresh.

How do you Reheat Hand Pies?

To reheat these air fryer hand pies, once again, use your air fryer! If you using the oven or microwave the crusts will not turn out as crisp.

Reheating should take 3-5 minutes at 320 degrees in the air fryer.
