How to Make Air Fryer Candied Pecans

  1. In a large bowl, toss together pecans, egg whites, maple syrup, brown sugar, white sugar, and cinnamon.
  2. Line the bottom of the air fryer basket of your air fryer with a piece of parchment paper, making sure to cut off any corners or edges that stick up over the top of the air fryer basket. You don’t want the parchment paper to be to close to the heating element or it will burn.
  3. Add the pecan mixture to the parchment-lined basket, and shake to move them into an even layer.
  4. Cook in the air fryer at 340 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes.
  5. Remove, give the nuts a good stir, and continue cooking for another 5 minutes.
  6. Line a baking sheet or cutting board with parchment paper, and pour the nuts onto the prepared surface.
  7. Spread them out and allow them to dry for about an hour.

Tips

  • Place the nuts in a single layer in the air fryer so they roast evenly while air frying.
  • Be sure the brown sugar mixture fully coats the raw pecans so the flavors are distributed evenly.
  • Ensure the nuts fully cool at room temperature before storing. If you store them when they are still warm, they will become soft and you will loose that crunch factor.

Variations

  • Use additional spices such as nutmeg and cloves to add more warmth to nut mixture.
  • Sprinkle in a little cayenne pepper or chili powder for a sweet and spicy twist.
  • Add more molasses flavor with the use of dark brown sugar in place of light brown sugar.
  • Use a mix of different nuts instead of all pecans.

Do I Need to Preheat the Air Fryer?

You don’t need to preheat the air fryer for this recipe. It would be too difficult to add the parchment paper to a hot air fryer basket.

Best Ways to Use Candied Pecans?

  • Air fryer pecans are great on their own for a quick snack.
  • Add these nuts to your morning oatmeal, yogurt or fresh fruits.
  • Sprinkle on top of your salad.
  • Use this air fryer pecans recipe to add a crunch to desserts such as ice cream.
  • They’re great to add to your holiday charcuterie boards.
  • Homemade food gifts for your friends and family.

How to Store Leftovers

Once the nuts are fully cooled, store them in an airtight container or sealed zip top bag at room temperature for up to several weeks.

You can also freeze the nuts in a freezer-safe container to extend their shelf life for 3-4 months. Note that the nuts may lose a bit of their crunch after thawing.

These air fryer candied pecans are one of my favorite snacks this time of year, but there’s no reason you can’t enjoy these crunchy nuts all year round.
