Kitchen Tools Needed

  • Sharp Knife
  • Baking sheet
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Large mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula or Wooden Spoon
  • Plastic wrap
  • 9×13 casserole or baking dish

Ingredients

CHOCOLATE BRIOCHE BREAD: I love the texture of Brioche bread. Plus, the extra chocolatey flavor will make this recipe extra special.

EGGS: Use eggs at room temperature so they’re easy to mix. Eggs help bind the ingredients; you can’t leave these out.

MILK: Another French toast staple! I use whole milk, but you can always switch to almond milk or your preferred non-dairy option.

VANILLA CREAMER: I usually grab one from the store, but you can always make your own. It’s an easy recipe. Just mix sweetened condensed milk, half and half, and vanilla extract, and viola!

HEAVY CREAM: You don’t need a lot of it, but heavy cream adds creaminess to the custard. I usually add a cup.

VANILLA EXTRACT: It’s the perfect way to enhance the vanilla flavor of your French toast without overpowering any other ingredients.

CINNAMON: You’ll love the subtle warmth and flavor it adds to the recipe. Other options include nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice, or cardamom.

BROWN SUGAR: It adds a touch of caramel flavor to your French toast recipes.

STRAWBERRIES: I’m a fresh fruit lover, so I stick to fresh strawberries. Make sure you remove the stem and dice them. If you’re using frozen berries, thaw them first. Since frozen berries release juices, reduce the milk mixture by 1/4th.

CHOCOLATE CHIPS: Semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips are my favorite. But you can use whatever you have on hand. White chocolate chips are also a good option!

MAPLE SYRUP: Drizzle some on top; you’ll love it!

Bake for 35-40 minutes. Check at the 35-minute mark, and if it is not done bake for longer.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes.

3. Add Toppings

Sprinkle the french toast bake with powdered sugar.

Serve cut individual servings and top with whipped cream, a sprinkling of chocolate chips and maple syrup.

Recipe Tips and Tricks

  • Use an egg slicer to slice your fresh strawberries for an even cut.
  • Tough breads like French bread need more soak time. If you’re using it, I suggest you soak the bread slices overnight.
  • If you’re using frozen berries, watch out for the juices they’ll release. It can make the bake a little soggy.
  • Brush butter on top of the bread for a beautiful golden brown color. If you feel your French toast is browning too soon, transfer the baking dish to a lower rack or cover it with aluminum foil.

Variations

  • Try different berries. Peaches, apricots, and mangoes will taste perfect, too.
  • Layer your French toast with cream cheese for a thicker texture.
  • Top it with dried fruits or chopped nuts for a crunchier bite.
  • Make it a full meal with a side of air fryer bacon and Greek Yogurt fruit salad.

Why is My French Toast Soggy?

Using fresh bread can result in a wet, mushy toast. Day-old or stale bread works best. You want the bread to soak up as much egg custard as possible.

Can I Use Fresh Bread?

You can use fresh bread, but there’s one extra step. You’ll need to bake fresh bread cubes for 10 minutes at 275 degrees before moving on with the recipe. The best bread for this strawberry French toast bake is slightly stale or dried out.

How to Store Strawberry French Toast Casserole?

Transfer your leftover baked French toast to an airtight container, or keep it in a separate bowl covered with plastic wrap. Like this, you’ll be able to save it for up to 3 days.

Add this Strawberry French Toast Bake recipe to your favorite breakfast ideas, and you’ll never start a day on a bland note! This is a perfect dish to enjoy on a lazy weekend or share with a large group of people on holiday mornings.
