Jameson Whiskey Sour

Share With Your Friends!

This Jameson Whiskey Sour is one of my favorite ways to serve up Jameson Irish whiskey. Jameson, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup are all it takes to make this Irish sour. Garnish with fresh lemon slices and a maraschino cherry. Great to whip up and serve in a chilled glass as a way to unwind, or make a large batch and serve guests for a St. Patrick’s Day party.

The Jameson Whiskey Sour, aka Irish Sour, is a sweet and sour cocktail with an Irish twist on the classic whiskey sour recipe.

How is it different than the classic cocktail?

The citrusy flavor of Jameson versus the oak and vanilla of traditional whiskey blends perfectly with fresh lemon juice. Plus we’re skipping the whole raw egg thing!

Why You’ll Love Jameson Whiskey Sour

  • A delicious cocktail with only 3 ingredients.
  • You have a sweet and sour flavor in each sip.
  • This is a classic whiskey cocktail that can be made all through the year for a tasty cocktail to sip on.
  • It offers that signature smoothness with each sip, and you will have layers of flavor.
  • A very popular cocktail in the Jameson world!

When to Serve

Since it’s a refreshing cocktail, it’s best for:

  • St. Patrick’s Day
  • Spring and Summer Seasons
  • As a Brunch Cocktail, Happy Hour Cocktail or Evening Drink

Kitchen Equipment Needed

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger / Shot Glass
  • Choice of Serving Glass

Ingredients

JAMESON IRISH WHISKEY: Jameson smooth Irish whiskey is the key. With it’s hints of grapefruit and floral notes, it’s a completely different flavor profile than a typical bourbon.

LEMONS: Fresh lemon juice for the sour twist to the drink and lemon slices for garnishment. I like the lemon, but you can use lime juice and a lime wedge instead of the lemon twist.

SIMPLE SYRUP: The sweetness in this drink is the simple syrup.

GARNISH: Lemon wedges and maraschino cherries.

How to Make A Jameson Whiskey Sour

Optional: Chill glass for 30 minutes.

1. Add about 1 cup of ice to a cocktail shaker.
2. Add Jameson, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake well to combine and chill.

3. Fill your chilled cocktail glass with ice cubes and strain into the glass.
4. Garnish with a fresh lemon slice and a maraschino cherry.

Tips

  • For an extra cold drink, use a chilled glass. Place your glass in the freezer for 20-30 minutes.
  • If you want a sweeter drink add a bit more simple syrup to the drink, or for a stronger drink add more whiskey. This recipe is versatile in how much of each ingredient you add.

Variations

  • Add an egg white to the drink to make a frothy topping that is white foam and a super smooth flavor.
  • Maple syrup is an excellent substitution for simple syrup.
  • Make it effervescent with a splash of ginger ale, or even lavender for a twist.
  • Try a smoked whiskey for a traditional flavor.
  • Add 2-3 dashes of angostura bitters or a spicy twist to the cocktail

Can I use Bottled Lemon Juice Instead of Fresh Lemon Juice?

You can use bottled lemon juice but you will find the flavor will not be as vibrant as fresh ingredients.

Can I Make a Large Batch For a Party?

Feel free to make up a large batch and store it in the fridge until you are ready to serve. Then just give the mixture a good stir or shake before you go to serve it up. This is the perfect base to make and store until you are ready to pour into glasses.

Can I use Other Types of Whiskey ?

Of course, but it’ll be a traditional whiskey sour, not a Jameson whiskey sour. Feel free to use a rye whiskey, bourbon whiskey, or another type of preferred whiskey. Experiment and see what flavors you prefer to create your custom cocktail.

How to Store Leftovers

If you have leftovers from your party, store in the fridge for 1-2 days in an airtight container. Then just shake well or stir well before serving. It’s also the perfect way to simply make extra to keep on hand after a long day when you want a cocktail.
