Mermaid Water Drink with Lime

Who doesn’t love a Mermaid cocktail? This Mermaid Water is a brightly colored rum punch style mixed drink that will certainly delight your taste buds.

The mix of fruit juices and a decent helping of rum creates a cool tropical drink. Just perfect for a summer cocktail out by the pool or dazzle your friends and serve it up at your backyard BBQ gathering, just like this gorgeous Blue Mojito or this fruity Bob Marley drink!

What’s in a Mermaid Water Drink?

Three liquors and two fruit juices make up this Mermaid Water cocktail. Yes, 3 liquors! A potent drink for sure.

SPICED RUM: Start with choosing your favorite spiced rum. For me, Captain Morgan’s or Sailor Jerry’s are great choices for this rum punch style drink.

COCONUT RUM: The second liquor is Coconut Rum, adding to the tropical drink flavors.

BLUE CURACAO: The third is Blue Curacao for a dash of orange flavor and added alcohol. Blue Curacao is also the key to getting this fun greenish-blue hue.

PINEAPPLE JUICE and LIME JUICE: The remaining ingredients are the two fruit juices. Typical of tropical drinks, they are sweet Pineapple Juice and Lime Juice.

And, if you like the pineapple and coconut flavors, check out this awesome recipe for the classic Blue Hawaiian drink.

Why Spiced Rum vs. Light or Dark Rum?

Light Rum (also called White Rum or sometimes Silver Rum) is a lighter flavored liquor. Light Rum ads the alcohol flavor to traditional mixed drinks, but doesn’t overpower the flavors of the mixer. Light rum is perfect for our favorite Strawberry Mojito where we want the strawberry and mint to shine through.

Dark Rums (also called Gold Rums) are typically made the same way as Light Rum but then aged in oak barrels for a more robust flavor. Dark Rum adds to the bold flavors in drinks like this classic Hawaiian Mai Tai which happens to be a half-century old secret recipe we think we’ve figured out!

Spiced Rums are all a little different. Each maker uses their own secret blend of spices to punch up the flavors of the rum. Both Captain Morgan and Sailor Jerry rums have hints of vanilla which goes splendidly in this Mermaid Water recipe.

Mermaid Water Juices

Pineapple juice and fresh squeezed lime juice round out the tropical flavoring. I use canned pineapple juice because juicing a pineapple is time consuming!

For the lime juice, make sure you use a full ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice as it keeps the drink from becoming overly sweet. I also add lime wheels, which are really just for looks. So, if you want to “dress up” your Mermaid Water drink, add lime wheels and a tropical umbrella.

I did include a tropical umbrella, but when I went to take a picture out by the pool, my 9-month-old Labrador puppy stole it. I quickly grabbed it back, but she’d already squished it up!

How to Make Mermaid Water

Fortunately, this drink recipe is super easy to make and you can easily double or triple the ingredients to make a large batch.

All you need are the ingredients and a cocktail shaker. If you don’t have one, any jug with a lid will work in a pinch.

I would also suggest using a lime/citrus press juicer. It’s so much easier to squeeze the lime and you’ll get more juice.

Here’s how to make this Mermaid Water drink. Feel free to play with it by adding a little more juice or rum to suit your tastes. You can also print out the recipe on the recipe card below.
