A Christmas Milkshake is a family favorite to serve up as a Christmas Eve drink or to cozy up together to watch Christmas movies.

These creamy milkshakes are always a hit during the Christmas season and since they are green, you can also call them a Grinch milkshake. Just add a few heart sprinkles to finish off the theme.

Pair your milkshake with some Christmas cookies or treats for the holiday season. Pair your green milkshake with green sugar cookies, Santa Nutter Butter Cookies or even these gorgeous Grinch Thumbprint Cookies.

Why You’ll Love This Christmas Milkshake

  • An easy homemade holiday-inspired milkshake recipe that is fun for kids and adults.
  • Simple ingredients that take no time to grab and throw together.
  • A sweet treat and easy recipe you can make any time of year. Just change out the color of the sprinkles!
  • This is a festive drink that can be used for holiday parties, family gatherings, movie nights, etc.

Kitchen Equipment Needed

  • Blender (I use this Ninja Blender – it can make anything creamy smooth and it’ll crush ice like a boss!)
  • Ice Cream Scoop
  • Milkshake Glass / Hurricane Glass (milkshakes look gorgeous in these Hurricane Glasses)

Recipe Ingredients

ICE CREAM: You can use any ice cream that suits your tastes. For this recipe, I’m used this delicious Christmas cookie ice cream.

MILK: Use whole milk for the richest flavor and thickness for this milkshake.

FOOD COLORING: I’m using green food coloring to color this holiday milkshake. Although the ice cream is green, the food coloring really makes it pop.

WHIPPED CREAM: Top this frozen milkshake with creamy whipped cream.

SPRINKLES: Holiday sprinkles on the rim of the glass on on top of the milkshake, for a pop of color. These red sprinkles mixed with green sprinkles and snowflakes work perfectly. Here are the sprinkles I use from Amazon.

How to Make A Christmas Milkshake

1. In your blender, add ice cream, milk, and food coloring. Blend until smooth.

Pouring milk into a blender filled with ice cream.

TIP: If needed, add additional green food coloring and blend, until you reach your desired shade of green for the shake.

2. Next, rim your milkshake glass. Add a small layer of frosting to the edge of the rim. Pour the sprinkles into a shallow plate and lightly roll the frosted rim in the Christmas sprinkles.

3. Pour the milkshake into your glass, and then top with whipped cream and more Christmas sprinkles.

Tips

  • A high speed blender is the best for blending ice cream into a creamy texture. Here’s the Ninja Blender I love from Amazon)
  • Add colorful straws for easy sipping. Here are these cute red and white straws.

Variations

  • You can make this into a festive cocktail and add rum, whiskey, vodka, coffee liqueur or any other alcohol of choice. Peppermint schnapps would be a great winter option.
  • Add a few drops of peppermint extract to creamy vanilla ice cream for a minty milkshake.
  • Add in crushed candy canes for a peppermint milkshake. Or use peppermint ice cream.
  • You are welcome to add in a little bit of vanilla extract for a sweeter flavor to the ice cream.
  • Add in some Golden Oreo cookies, this is great for an Oreo lover! I added Oreos in this Pumpkin Spice Oreo Milkshake.
  • Eggnog milkshakes are great, and you can swap the milk with eggnog.

Can I Double the Recipe?

Yes, you can double the recipe if you would like. Simply just double the ingredients, making sure you have enough room in the blender to ensure it creams up nicely.

How Can I Thicken My Milkshake?

To thicken the milkshake you need to use more ice cream or less milk. If need be you can add extra ice cream to the mixture, or use less milk when you mix it up.

How to Store Leftovers

Milkshakes are best served freshly made. If you do not eat all the milkshake right away you can freeze the milkshake for 2-3 days.

Let the milkshake thaw for about 5 minutes or so on the counter and then blend it up again to get a creamy texture.

This holiday season enjoy a delicious, sweet Christmas Milkshake both kids and grown-ups will love!
