What Kind of Liquor Should I Use?

There are 4 kinds of liquor that work perfectly in these eggnog jello shots:

  1. Whiskey
  2. Spiced Rum
  3. Dark Rum
  4. Bourbon

Kitchen Equipment

  • Small Saucepan (or a medium size if you’re doubling the recipe)
  • Medium or Large Bowl
  • Measuring Cup
  • Whisk
  • Plastic Shot Glasses (I use these 1 ounce condiment cups)
  • Cookie Sheet / Baking Sheet

Ingredients

WATER: You’ll need both cold water and hot water for this recipe.

UNFLAVORED GELATIN: I use the common brand Knox Unflavored Gelatin. It’s what makes these fun and jiggly seasonal shots.

SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK: Adds the creamy texture to the gelatin and the sweet flavor.

LIQUOR: Use your favorite whiskey, a spiced rum, dark rum or bourbon to make these boozy jello shots. I personally love mild whiskey, such as Crown Royal or a spiced rum such as Captain Morgan. Most importantly, use the liquor you enjoy the most in your eggnog!

EGGNOG: I’m using store-bought eggnog. You can use your own homemade eggnog recipe as well, but I’m all about quick and easy recipes! The creamy eggnog along with the condensed milk will create a deliciously thick, almost pudding mixture.

WHIPPED CREAM: Garnish with a dollop of whipped cream for a festive look as well as an added sweet flavor.

CINNAMON: Add a pinch of cinnamon into the eggnog gelatin mixture.

NUTMEG: Sprinkle on top for even more classic eggnog flavor.

CINNAMON STICKS: Add a short cinnamon stick to each eggnog jello shot for a cute garnish and a little cinnamon. It’s also helpful to use kind of like a spoon! So guests can use it to help spoon out the eggnog jello shots.

How to Make Eggnog Jello Shots

STEP 1: In a medium sized bowl add 1 cup cold water and sprinkle gelatin packets over the water. Whisk or stir to combine and let set for 7 minutes so the gelatin can bloom.

STEP 2: Bring 1 cup of water to a boil, turn off heat and place saucepan on heat protective surface. Pour the gelatin mixture into the saucepan. Whisk until fully dissolved.

STEP 3: Pour in the sweetened condensed milk, whiskey, bourbon, dark rum or spiced rum and eggnog. Add the pinch of cinnamon. Again, whisk or stir well until fully combined.

STEP 4: Set aside for 15 minutes to let the jello eggnog mixture cool slightly and thicken.

STEP 5: Now, place your jello shot cups on a baking sheet. Use a measuring cup or a ladle with a spout to easily fill the jello shot cups with the eggnog gelatin mixture.

STEP 6: Place the baking sheet with filled cups in the refrigerator for 2 hours or until fully set.

STEP 7: Just before serving, top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg .

How to Store

Refrigerator: Keep these boozy eggnog jello shots in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve them up. Feel free to make them ahead of time as you can keep them in fridge up to 3 days.

Freezer: Do not freeze, jello shots don’t do well in the freezer, it changes the gelatin texture.

These fun Eggnog Jello Shots are perfect for you next Christmas Party! Cheers and Merry Christmas!
