How to Make A Hot Chocolate Charcuterie Board

How to Make Homemade Hot Chocolate:

In a 6 qt or larger crock pot, combine the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla.

Add in the heavy cream and milk and stir well.

Heat over low or high heat until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is warm. Stir often.

Keep on the warm setting if setting out for any extended period of time.

How to Assemble the Board:

Select your toppings and board.

Start with your larger items, placing them around the board.

Follow up with medium size items to fill more room. Adjust items as you go to create space and fill the board.

Finally, place the smaller items in any gaps and continue to adjust to accommodate the items.

TIP: Any super small items such as sprinkles, chocolate chips, etc. are easiest to display in a bowl to keep items organized and contained.

Set your board next to the crock pot of hot chocolate and and add garnishes to your hot chocolate bar by arranging bottles of chocolate syrup, caramel sauce, whipped cream, etc… for garnishes.

Tips

  • Choose the size board based on how many people you are serving.
  • I made the hot cocoa mix in the slow cooker, but you can use the stovetop or simply hot milk with hot chocolate bombs or powdered mix.
  • Offer spoons on the side or stir sticks to ensure the guests can mix up the drink after they add in their items.
  • If you have little kids make sure to adjust the treats to fit their age.

Variations

  • Include your favorite wafer cookies, graham crackers, fruit and more on a separate plate for more snack options.
  • Go vegan and use a non-dairy cocoa and vegan marshmallows.
  • Add more toppings like coconut flakes, crushed graham cracker crumbs, crushed Oreo cookies, etc.
  • Include a peanut butter or hazelnut spread for stirring into the cocoa for more flavor.
  • Add chocolate spoons to stir with, adding even more chocolate flavor.

Can I Make this Dessert Board Ahead of Time?

Yes, you can assemble your board the day before you plan to set up your hot cocoa bar. Keep it in a cool, dry place so your chocolates don’t melt.

Any items that need refrigeration, simply keep them in the fridge and place them on the board right before serving.

How to Store Leftovers

  • If you have leftover hot cocoa, let it cool in the crock pot. Then pour it into an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Place all your sweets in containers, plastic sealed bags or wrap in plastic wrap and store at room temperature.
  • To reheat, fill a mug and microwave in 30 second intervals until warm. If you are reheating a large batch, add it back into the slow cooker and heat on low.

Have fun with this delicious hot chocolate charcuterie board! Fill it full of fun treats and yummy hot chocolate toppings for your guests to create their own flavorful cups of hot chocolate.
