STEP 1: Combine mini marshmallows and butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

STEP 2: When the marshmallows begin to melt, it’s time to add the strawberry extract to the marshmallow mixture. Then, slowly stir with a spatula and continue melting.

STEP 3: Next, add the white chocolate chips to the sauce pan and continue stirring to mix in the melted chocolate.

STEP 4: When the marshmallows are almost entirely melted, add freeze dried strawberries.

STEP 5: Stir the marshmallow mixture until everything is well combined and completely melted.

STEP 6: Place rice krispies in a large bowl and pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the rice cereal, using the spatula to stir it together.

TIP: To get all the melted mixture out of the sauce pan, use a greased spatula. You can simply spray it with non-stick cooking spray.

STEP 7: Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray or rub with one tablespoon of butter.

STEP 8: Then, add the strawberry and cream rice krispies cereal mixture to the pan. Spread the mixture in the pan and evenly press mixture until it’s flattened.

STEP 9: To create heart shaped rice krispie treats, place plastic wrap over the baking pan. Then, using a heart cookie cutter, press down on the cereal treats to cut out hearts. Repeat this step until you have created hearts with all of the rice krispie cereal mixture.

TIP: Once you’ve cut out all your heart rice krispie treats, take the remaining rice krispie mixture and mush it all together. You might be able to get enough together to fill one more heart cookie cutter.

Creating Heart Pops (Optional)

My favorite way to serve these adorable Valentine’s Day desserts is to dress them up as “heart pops” with colorful paper straws. This is completely optional, you can serve them without the straw.

It’s just a cute way to add interest to your dessert table this Valentine’s Day and it makes them even easier to eat!

STEP 1: Make a small hole in the heart shaped rice krispie treat by pushing a knife about ¾ of the way up from the bottom of the heart.

STEP 2: Remove the knife and replace with a colorful paper straw. If the straw is loose, you can use your hands to squeeze the heart rice krispie treats gently around the straw.

Decorating Heart Shaped Rice Krispie Treats

STEP 1: Place the rice krispie treats on a sheet of parchment paper (wax paper will work too).

STEP 2: In a microwave safe bowl, melt white chocolate candy melts by warming in the microwave in 30-second increments. Stir in between each heating session and continue until creamy and smooth.

STEP 3: Scoop the melted candy into a piping bag, securing the top and cutting a small hole at the tip.

STEP 4: Next, hold the piping bag above the rice cereal treats and squeeze gently at an angle as you move back and forth across the heart shaped treats.

STEP 5: Before the candy melt sets, add festive sprinkles to the strawberry heart shaped rice krispie treats. I also added a few chips of the freeze dried strawberries on top too.

  • Add red food coloring to your marshmallow mixture to make red heart shaped rice krispie treats.
  • Pipe different colors of candy melts (pink candy melts would look cute too!) across your heart shaped treats for a more colorful Valentine’s Day celebration.
  • Try creating this recipe with pink mini marshmallows or flavored marshmallows to create a whole new spin on this recipe for strawberry rice krispie treats.
  • Use different cookie cutters, color schemes, and sprinkles to make this fun rice krispie treat recipe work for any holiday.

How Far In Advance Can I Make Rice Krispie Treats?

One of the best things about these rice crispy cereal treats is that you don’t have to wait until the day of your big party to make them. You can make your own strawberry heart shaped rice krispie treats 1-2 days in advance.

They are truly more ooey gooey on the first day, so if you have the time, serve them the same day you make them.

Here’s a photo of one I pulled apart so you can see how moist and gooey they are!

One rice krispie treat pulled apart almost in half showing the gooey marshmallow mixture stretching between the two halves.

How to Store

If you’re just storing them for a few days, keep them in an airtight container at room temperature. Any longer, the marshmallow mixture tends to dry out and get hard.
