Kitchen Equipment Needed

  • Measuring Cup
  • Sauce Pan
  • Medium Mixing Bowl (heat-safe)
  • Plastic Shot Glasses – I use these 2 oz size jello shot cups (aka condiment cups)
  • Cookie Sheet / Muffin Pan – to move them in and out of the refrigerator with ease.

Ingredients

This is a quick overview of everything you’ll need for these cherry jello shots.

Cherry Jello – This recipe calls for two boxes of cherry jello (3 oz size). We’re making super cherry flavored cherry jello shots!

Water – Reach for a filtered water for this recipe, it always tastes crisper!

Maraschino Originale Liqueur – This is an alcohol that is flavored with marasca cherry. It’s going to infuse your jello shots with even more cherry flavor.

Whipped Cream Vodka – So I wanted to elevate the flavor and I reached for a whipped cream flavored vodka. It tastes exactly how it sounds, it’s vodka with whipped cream flavor, adding a yummy sweetness.

Maraschino Cherries – A special treat added for garnish.

Sprinkles – Gold sprinkles to elevate the look and add a little flavor boost.

Whipped cream – I love whipped cream for topping on these boozy jello shots! I use Redi Whip in a can, it’s just easier to use.

How to Make Cherry Jello Shots

STEP 1: Bring a cup of water to a boil.

STEP 2: Add your jello powder into the sauce pan, or to cool faster, use a heat-safe bowl and pour the boiling water over the jello. Whisk until it is completely dissolved.

Jello mixture in a medium saucepan with a whisk.

STEP 3: Allow the mixture to cool for a bit so it’s closer to room temperature, then stir in the whipped cream vodka and the Maraschino Originale Liqueur.

STEP 4: Line up your small plastic cups on in a muffin pan or on a cookie sheet. Pour the liquid jello mixture into each of the condiment cups. Don’t fill all the way, leave room for the garnishes to sit on top.

STEP 5: Sprinkle some gold sprinkles on top (most will sink into the jello mixture adding bursts of sweetness through out the shot). Then place the jello shots in the fridge to set up for 2-4 hours.

Recipe Variations

  • If you don’t want to use maraschino originale you can swap with maraschino cherry juice. I prefer the liqueur, but this is another option you can use in a pinch.
  • Feel free to change up the jello flavors besides the cherry gelatin. Strawberry jello would work well too.
  • You can also opt to use a plain vodka or a vanilla vodka – either will compliment the cherry perfectly.
  • Get even more cherry flavor by using a cherry vodka.
  • Swap vodka with tequila or white rum,. This will make them less sweet though.
  • Fireball whiskey would be a delicious twist for this recipe to give a nice cinnamon flavor.

How to Store Cherry Jello Shots

Store the shot cups in the fridge with the plastic cup lids on top (without garnishes). You will want to serve up your shots within 3-4 days.

Can you get Drunk Off Cherry Jello Shots?

There is alcohol in jello shots, so you will find that depending on how many you eat, you can feel the effects of the alcohol. Now depending on the type of alcohol used, will vary in how much you feel the effects. But in general you have to eat a few before you would feel anything from them. But know it can sneak up on you!

How Long Does it Take for Jello Shots to Set Up?

It can take 2-4 hours for jello shots to set up. I always recommend making them at least 4 hours before I plan to serve, to ensure they have time to set up. There’s no reason you can’t make them the day before and simply add garnish before serving.

Jello Shot Tips

  • You don’t want to pour liquor into boiling water or super hot water because it will burn off some of the alcohol.
  • To pour mixture, it’s easiest to put the jello mixture into your measuring cup. I’ll also use my ladle with pouring spouts. Whichever works for you!
  • Don’t add extra alcohol amounts. If there is too much alcohol, they won’t set up.
  • Chill your liquors before hand, which does help them set up a little quicker.

These Cherry Jello Shots will win you over! Whip up these jello shots for your friends and family for a delicious way to elevate your night. If you are a lover of all things fruity and vodka, then this is the recipe for you.

Cheers!
