What is Toasted Ravioli?

Toasted Ravioli began sometime in the 1930s-1940s in St. Louis, Missouri where several restaurants claim to have created this delectable appetizer.

Toasted Ravioli is typically breaded ravioli that is deep fried, but today we’re making a healthier version in the air fryer. Does it taste exactly like oil frying toasted ravioli? No, it doesn’t, but they are still very delicious. Frozen ravioli in air fryer is the swoon worthy, so give it a try!

Why not make it an Italian night? These air fryer raviolis are the perfect appetizer to go with this low-carb, cheesy Parmesan Crusted Chicken.

Benefits of an Air Fryer

Air frying ravioli has so many benefits over other cooking methods.

Crispy: These air fryer frozen toasted ravioli turn out crispier than if oven-baked.

Healthier: Ok, I’m not claiming that bread-covered pasta filled with cheese is a healthy appetizer, but it is healthier than frying them in oil. You’ll consume less saturated fats when using an air fryer.

Cleaner: No messy oil to clean up and dispose of, unlike deep frying.

Convenient: The air fryer is so much easier than deep-frying.

Do You Thaw Frozen Ravioli Before Air Frying?

No, you don’t need to thaw them first. We’re using the ravioli straight out of the freezer, coating them with breading and then popping them into the air fryer.

Do You Need to Boil Ravioli Before Air Frying?

You don’t need to boil the ravioli before placing them in the air fryer. With the air fryer, hot air will circulate all around, cooking the food evenly. It’ll warm the inside and cook the outer dough at the same time.

How to make Air Fryer Toasted Ravioli

It’s truly very easy and only a little messy to make. Bread crumbs somehow always escape the bowl and make a bit of a mess. But the good news is – they are easy to clean up!

Here’s how to make air fryer toasted ravioli:

Step 1: Prepare two bowls for coating the frozen ravioli. In one bowl, crack open two eggs and whisk with a fork. In a separate bowl, fill with Panko bread crumbs.

Step 2: Coat frozen ravioli in egg.

Step 3: Coat the egg-dipped ravioli into the panko bread crumbs.

Tip: You can add Italian seasoning to your bread crumbs to add more spices. I don’t add the extra seasoning in this recipe, but I think it would taste great as well.

Step 4: Space out the coated ravioli on the air fryer rack.

Step 5: Lightly spray the ravioli with olive oil cooking spray on both sides.

The cooking spray makes these air fried ravioli extra crispy. This step is optional if you don’t want to use any oil. Without the cooking spray, the ravioli will taste more like oven-baked than fried.

How to Cook Frozen Toasted Ravioli in Air Fryer

Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees (usually this takes 2-3 minutes to reach the desired temperature, but check your air fryer manual for exact time)

How long to air fry toasted ravioli? Set the cook time for 15-20 minutes.

Every air fryer is a little different. I suggest checking the ravioli after 15 minutes. Depending on your model, you may need to cook them for up to an additional 5 minutes to get a nice toasted ravioli crust.

If you are using a basket-style air fryer, do not stack the ravioli on top of each other. Make one single layer or if you have an air fryer metal rack insert (like this one on Amazon), you could maximize the air fryer basket space with two layers.

How to Reheat Air Fryer Ravioli

Got a few leftover? Store the leftover air fryer toasted ravioli in the refrigerator and it’ll be easy to reheat again in the air fryer.

Start by preheating your air fryer to 350 degrees.

Lightly spritz the ravioli with olive oil cooking spray. This will help the breading return to its former crispiness and not let the bread crumbs become too dried out.

Cook for approximately 7-8 minutes.

Again, if you are using an air fryer with a basket, then flip the ravioli after 4 minutes to make sure the hot air circulates all around the ravioli.

They should be warmed through with a crispy toasted ravioli outside!
