Kitchen Equipment Needed

Ingredients

CHERRY JELLO: For the red layer of this recipe you will use a cherry jello mix.

FIREBALL WHISKY (CHILLED): Fireball whiskey offers a nice kick of spice to these unique jello shots! Make sure to chill your liquor in the freezer before using.

WATER: Filtered water is best as it is going to melt the gelatin and such, without altering the flavor. You’ll use boiling water and cold water.

FOOD COLORING: Black gel food coloring adds the deep black color to the top layer. Since the cherry jello is a darker color, you won’t need much and the black food dye really gives it that vampire look.

CHERRIES: Maraschino cherries are the perfect garnish and adds a bright red color pop on top of the black jello.

SPRINKLES: Sprinkles are optional for sprinkling on top of the Halloween shots.

How to Make Vampire Kiss Jello Shots

These black jello shots are so fun and when you have the red jello layer as well. It really gives these fireball jello shots that eerie vibe. Here’s how to make layered vampire jello shots:

  1. Bring water to a boil in a medium sauce pan. Or you can boil water in the microwave in a microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Add the cherry jello packet to the hot water and whisk together until completely dissolved.
  3. Whisk in the cold water.
  4. Next, add the chilled Fireball Whisky.
  5. Place your jello shot cups on a baking sheet. Fill the jello shot cups with the red cherry jello about ¾ way full and place the shots into the fridge for 1 1/2 – 2 hours.
  6. You should have ¼ of the cherry jello mixture left over. Whisk in a few drops of the black gel food coloring until it reaches the black color.
  7. Once the red layer has firmed up, remove from the refrigerator and carefully add the black gelatin on top.
  8. Place the jello shots back into the fridge for another 90 minutes or longer until the jello is set up.
  9. Just before serving, top with red sprinkles and a maraschino cherry.

What Liquor Can I Use Instead of Fireball?

You can always use a different liquor to match your tastes.

These vampire kiss jello shots are very versatile! It’s just cherry jello, so any liquor that goes with cherry will work!

If you don’t want the spicy kick of Fireball, use regular vodka, vanilla vodka, whipped cream vodka, white rum, or any other flavor of alcohol that goes well with cherry. Or even opt for a plain whiskey.

The taste will be different, but it’ll still be a yummy vampire jello shot!

Tips and Variations

  • When setting these vampire jello shots out at your Halloween party, place then in a punch bowl full of ice to keep them chilled.
  • Use strawberry jello instead of cherry.
  • Mix corn syrup with red gel food coloring to make fake blood you can drizzle on the top of the jell-o shots.
  • I’m using the 1 ounce plastic cups with lids for making these 10 jello shots. If you want to double the recipe, you can make 20 jello shots or use the 2 ounce plastic shot glasses for 10 larger vampire kiss jello shots.
  • Always line up your plastic cups on a baking sheet or baking pan before filling. This helps catch any spillage as well as makes it a lot easier to move in and out of the fridge.

What Jello Goes Well with Fireball Whisky?

You can make other flavored jello shots with Fireball. Try orange jello, cranberry jello, or apple jello – these all go well with Fireball.

In my opinion, cherry and fireball it is the perfect sweet and spicy flavor pairing for these vampire jello shots.

How Much Alcohol Should You Put in Jello Shots?

Typically you will find you can add anywhere from 1/2 cup up to 1 cup of alcohol for a jello shot batch.

If you add in too much alcohol it will cause the jello to not set up, so make sure you don’t go overboard on the booze you pour in.

To make the perfect drink (or is a vampire kiss jello shot a snack??) – less is more.

How to Store Jello Shots

Refrigerate these vampire jello shots for up to 2 days in the fridge. This lets you make them ahead of time too!

Make sure they are in a sealed jello shot cup so it won’t take on other flavors from the fridge.

Tip: You never want to freeze jello shots, as it will break down the jello into a strange consistency.

Hosting a party or gathering with Vampire Kiss Jello Shots is like being the Dracula of mixology – your guests will have fang-tastic time!
